"It went okay. I was not all that impressed with him. I wanted him to come out and do some stuff on some baseboards in the house but he was not able to do that. He ended up working on some other things but I forgot what they were. I will never use them again. He said he would give me a quote on a backdoor but he never followed up."

"I'm very pleased with his remodel of my kitchen. He even met me at Home Depot and picked up the counter tops for me. He went up and above the call of duty to see that the job was completed to my satisfaction. Home Advisor should be proud to have him on board. He said the job would take 3 days, but completed in 2.5 days. This entailed tearing out the old counter tops, sink, range top and vent hood and replacing with all new appliances and sink plus laying ceramic tile on the back splashes. Great job!!"

"This was the second time we used Dustin/ A & D remodeling for a remodel to our 1984 built home. Not only is he professional, honest and reliable but, he and his partner Matt can conceptualize what you are requesting and make that dream come true. It has been a month now since they completed our back patio, screened in, hot tub porch and we love it! Thanks Again for being such wonderful people to work with."

"Amanda was really very good!  At first I was very skeptical, thinking why did I pay money to just speak with someone on the phone about my kitchen remodel project... but after just a few minutes of her addressing some of the issues/questions I emailed to her earlier, I knew it was worth it.  It was very clear that she knew her business and she gave me several ideas that I had not even thought about.  I told her that I would definitely recommend her to friends and I will very likely use her again myself for my next home project!

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Yes, most general contractors require an initial down payment, typically between 10% and 25% of the total project cost. This upfront payment helps cover the costs of materials, permits, and subcontractors. The remaining project costs are usually billed after specific project milestones are reached or on set completion dates, as outlined in your contract. Be wary of contractors who require a significant deposit of 50% or more upfront, as this could be a red flag for a scam.

The average cost of remodeling a basement is $30 to $75 per square foot. If your space is unfinished and looks like it may need more help, use the higher number when calculating your estimated basement remodeling costs. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional 20% to the top of your estimate to cover any “what if” situations.

A finished basement does not always count as square footage, as this varies by state regulations. In areas that allow below-grade spaces to be included in a home's official square footage, the basement must typically meet certain conditions. These conditions often include having a functional egress and being a livable space with flooring, finished walls, and temperature control. To be certain, contact your local assessor to confirm your area's specific policies regarding basement square footage.

Although homeowners often use the terms basement remodeling and basement finishing interchangeably, they are quite different terms.

Finishing a basement is the process of taking a basement space that is not habitable and adding elements to make it usable. This includes adding plumbing, flooring, and insulation.

Remodeling a basement means taking an already existing finished basement and changing it, often by adding or removing walls, adding plumbing, or changing the existing flooring.

Save money on your basement finishing project by making cost-effective decisions such as minimizing structural changes and avoiding costly construction revisions. DIY simpler tasks such as painting or basic cleanup to reduce labor costs. You can also opt for energy-efficient fixtures and materials that may qualify for rebates or tax incentives.
