"I always have good luck with John. He is good, and he is busy. I understand that when I contact him, he puts me on his schedule for the soonest possible. I have used John for everything from painting to making screens, putting up tile, installing cabinets and any number of other things. I trust him to get the job done correctly. I make a list made and he checks off things as he goes. He has good ideas, works hard and seems to enjoy accomplishing his tasks."

"Roger came to my home to provide an estimate. He arrived promptly. He was professional, very pleasant, and easy to talk to. I showed him the work I needed to have done. He measured the rooms for flooring. He spent time talking with me about some other issues I had with my house and offered some good ideas. I don't think he completely understood my vision for a change in the layout of the shower in the master bath but I would have revisited that topic with him prior to hiring him. I was concerned about a possible cat "accident" ruining new floors and Roger had a great idea to have the planks stained and sealed on site. This would help prevent moisture from getting in between the planks. Roger provided an estimate with moderate details. His estimate was about what I expected and in line with my budget. He called to follow up with me on the estimate. I wasn't home at the time and he left a message. I always appreciate it when a service provider checks back. It makes me feel like they want my business. I give him an A+ for doing that. I liked Roger. A minor health issue come up in my family and I decided to table the project for the time being.

"not to good :( I felt I did most of the work by providing all the details floor plans and colors.  What I got back was only two floor plans and some websites to purchase living room deco and some paint samples. Not enough for the money I paid. It also took a month or so before I received these things too.

"I bought 16 hours of painting using a special offer from Angie's List. When the painters showed up they said I had only 8 hours.  That got resolved quickly but made me nervous. Two men worked on painting my new doors, seven in all. When they left, I found paint on the floor of the shower in the master bathroom, a towel, the sink in my daughter's bathroom, the tile floor, several of the door knobs and hinges, and my carpet. A third man charged me an extra $245 to replace the trim around two doors.  However he did not replace all of it as I expected and he moved it in closer to the door, which allowed a hole in the sheet rock to show.  He told me to fill it with spackle.  I told him that since we had discussed using wider trim that wouldn't have been a problem.  Also, the pieces he did not replace were the tops over the doors and were stained dark brown.  The new trim is white. He agreed to come back, replace the trim all around the doors with wider woodwork and paint it. He also agreed to replace the baseboards and paint them for an additional fee of $75. He came back on a Saturday, replaced and painted the trim.  He did not caulk the trim or baseboards.  And once again I have hinges to clean as well as the floor tile. Besides which, he did not paint the edges of the new trim, just the front surface!"

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Popular options include ceramic, porcelain, stone, and glass tiles, chosen based on the area (bathroom, kitchen) and desired aesthetic.

The grout shade you choose comes down to personal taste and preference. A darker grout will give you a more dramatic and noticeable contrast with the tile around it; however, lighter grout helps create a more uniform look when blending the colors together. Additionally, a darker grout combined with a patterned tile could be overwhelming to the eye, while lighter grout makes the pattern stand out as the main focus.

The best bathroom floor tiles are strong enough to withstand the weight of a clawfoot tub. However, professional tile installation is essential. If the tiles are uneven or improperly fixed, they may crack under the pressure. Be careful when installing the tub—if it drops or drags on the tiles, it could easily cause scratches or cracks.

It’s best to start with tiling the shower floor before moving on to the walls for the most visually-pleasing results. When taking on any tiling project, you’ll want the wall tiles to “sit” neatly on the floor tiles rather than overlapping them. Finishing your floor tiles first will allow you to place your wall tiles without any gaps, holes, or awkward intersections.

You can technically install tile over tile, but we don’t suggest it. Installing tile over any surface that isn’t a completely flat and prepared subfloor will result in a shoddy overall job, uneven flooring, tiles that don’t adhere, extra weight, gaps, cracks, and room for moisture and dirt to enter. For the best results, only install new tile on a flat, sanded surface like subflooring or concrete that is prepared for tile.

If you have asbestos tile and would rather tile over it than remove it, or if your existing tile is completely flat and bonded tightly to the floor, you may be able to tile over existing tile. But experts recommend thinking twice before you do.
