"Weatherization Experts quality and installation performance was excellent. As a result of their work, the house temperatures are even, comfortable and we use less energy. The house is much quieter. The house had been re-insulated 5 years ago during a major remodel. Weatherization Experts used diagnostic quality IR devices to clearly identify hidden problems. They corrected the previous contractors flaws, both insulation and construction. The results are paying immediately savings on energy usage. No regrets - very satisfied !"

"Harper’s is a very good company owner is a man of integrity. Don keeps his word. I have always been treated with the utmost respect. The employees are nice men hard workers do excellent work. Also, they clean up when the job is finished. First did my roof in 2013. Whenever I have had any problem one of guys has been out quickly to fix it. I must say this my house is a flat roof and it has been a challenge."

"Joey provided options for system replacement at my mother's home, and offered as detailed an explanation as I wanted about any aspect of the job. He was great at communication such as asking me to call with any questions I might have. He kept all promises made about installation of parts, timing of install and cost of install, which was more reasonable than the estimate provided by the AC repair company I typically used. His staff were polite and professional and the install felt stress free. Joey offers quality products, along with great warranties, and maintenance free of charge for several years on his installed product. I have never been so pleased with any trade service provided to me over the years, as I was with this gentleman. I recommend him 100%. I have plans for Joey to replace my own ac system and provide insulation due to his professionalism and care for his clients. I will also use his services for maintenance from now on."

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

Setting your AC unit to 78 degrees can, indeed, help you save energy. In fact, according to experts, every degree you turn the unit up could save you between 1% and 3% on your energy bills. That said, turning your unit off entirely while you’re out might actually be less efficient than keeping it on at a higher temperature. Why? The unit will need to work extra hard to cool the house back off again after all those hot hours.

R-value is calculated by dividing the thickness of an insulation material by its thermal conductivity. The material's composition and density influence thermal conductivity. Materials with lower conductivity values provide better insulation. The higher the R-value, the better the material is at insulating, helping homeowners select insulation that meets the energy needs of their climate and home layout.

There is no blanket figure for a residential home’s electrical load, since load varies by the size of the home, how many appliances are used, and the efficiency of their electrical systems. Typically, however, it’s safe to assume 40 to 60 amps is the average electrical load of a residential home.

A small sump pump running infrequently uses an average of 10 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per month. The average cost for electricity is $0.171 per kWh. The size and use frequency affect how much electricity it uses. Sump pumps average one-third to one horsepower (hp) motors. One hp is equal to 745.7 watts. Watts multiplied by the time your pump is running divided by 1,000 equals your average kWh. Multiply kWh by your average cost of electricity. In areas with high rain or a marsh basin, the average cost can be as high as $15-$25 a month.

Services by electricians can quickly get expensive, but there are a few ways you can save money in the process:

  • Bundle multiple jobs done at the same time to save on trip fees or flat fees for individual projects.

  • Get at least three quotes for service to find the best deal.

  • Buy fixtures, switches, outlets, and other materials beforehand to avoid product markup.

  • If you feel comfortable with it, have an apprentice or journeyman complete the work under the supervision of a master electrician. These electricians in training tend to charge less per project.
