"We’ve been working with Will Allen and the team at Precision Flooring for over 20 years, and they’ve been nothing short of outstanding. One of the things we appreciate most is the consistency—you always work with the same trusted people on every project, not someone new each time. For us, that’s been Jason on hardwood floors and Eddie on tile and carpet. Over the years, we’ve partnered with Precision Flooring on countless projects. They’ve handled commercial work at our business, including refinishing vinyl and installing carpet. At our old house, they installed new carpet and tile. When we moved into a new home, we weren’t thrilled with some of the builder’s flooring choices, so we brought in Precision to refinish the wood floors. Later, when we finished out our upstairs, they installed both wood floors and carpet, and they also updated the kitchen tile. Precision Flooring has been our go-to for every flooring project, big or small, and we couldn’t be happier with their work."

"They were professional. They also came back to make some repairs with no hassle. They came out right away and took care of it. The owner, Mike, is very nice and easy to work with. They only small complaint I have is the padding underneath the carpet did not expand entirely. There are a few areas around the edges where the padding did not reach. Other than that, the carpet is everything they promised. Their service was great!"

"We had just bought a house and had tried cleaning the existing carpet. There was some left over smell of smoke and per urine on carpet that just wouldn’t go away. We received a couple of estimates for carpet replacement. You just couldn’t beat the pricing that Empire had. The deal they gave us was ridiculous. My wife and i love the new carpet."

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

While it's possible to cover asbestos tile with carpet, it's not recommended. Encapsulating tile beneath carpet doesn't eliminate the health risks. Over time, the asbestos tiles could degrade, releasing fibers into the air and potentially contaminating the carpet. Disturbance during carpet installation or removal might also release fibers.

Yes, carpeted stairs are generally considered safer than stairs with hard surfaces like wood, vinyl, or tile. Carpet provides more traction and friction, which helps reduce the chances of slips and falls. Additionally, if a fall does occur, carpet offers more cushioning, which can lessen the severity of an injury. While hard surfaces can look great, they are often more slippery. However, it's worth noting that some carpets, especially if they are new, dirty, or have a slick texture, can also pose a slipping hazard. To improve safety on any type of stair surface, you can add traction treads to increase grip.

It's best to wait until the newly installed carpet has fully settled and dried before moving furniture back into the room. Your carpet installation professionals can provide guidance on the recommended wait time based on factors such as the type of carpet and adhesive used. Moving furniture back in too soon could damage the carpet or affect its adherence to the floor.

In most cases, you do not need to put padding or underlayment under carpet tiles. Unlike traditional carpet, which requires a separate pad, carpet tiles are designed to be installed directly onto a firm subfloor like plywood, concrete, or tile. Many carpet tiles come with a built-in underlay and attach with peel-and-stick adhesive, double-sided carpet tape, or glue. For a more comfortable, cushioned feel, especially in residential settings, you can opt for padded carpet tiles that have a thicker underlay attached. While it's generally not recommended to install a separate pad, a compact underlayment might be used in some situations, though this typically requires professional installation. An acoustic underlay may also be considered in commercial spaces or multi-level homes where noise reduction is a priority.

When choosing whether to install carpet in your home, consider the pros and cons of this change:

Pros

  • More affordable than laminate flooring

  • Gives the room a warmer feel

  • Softer on feet

  • Wide variety of textures and colors

  • Hides dirt easily

  • Faster and easier to install

Cons

  • Shows wear and tear more quickly than laminate flooring

  • Shows stains

  • Soaks up liquids

  • May not work well in some areas, such as a bathroom

  • Less durable than laminate flooring

  • Susceptible to water damage, mold, and mildew
