"The crew did an amazing job removing a problem tree and trimming back another one. They cleaned everything up when they were done as well. I have other trees needing attention so I will definitely be hiring them again in the future."

"Nick took the time to fully understand what I wanted done and explained how I could achieve that while also keeping my tree healthy. His crew was prompt, thorough and very respectful. I will use him again in the future as it is so hard to find people who do what they say they are going to do."

"They arrived within an hour I would guess, which I would call prompt service. Seemed to share medical concern if I would need supplies or to get out. Genuine courteous. And the price was as quoted over the phone. Thank you. I would hire them again."

"They arrived on schedule and began work immediately.  They were able to quickly trim the elm tree to our satisfaction.  The willow tree took a little more time due to the proximity of the homes and multiple dead limbs at the top of the tree.  I was pleased with their work, and will definitely use them again.  They are very professional, and know their business well.

"Timberline quoted a very reasonable price. They showed up on time and worked all day to remove an 80'-90' tree with very vertical branches. They had to drop tree 2' from my shed and 12' from my neighbor's garage. They did this with precision. I was very impressed. I don't have enough good things to say about my experience. I bought my house 3 years ago and have several contractors work on my place and haven't been happy with most. Timberline has been the best contractor I have worked with. I appreciate the project they did for me."

"Business owner Nathan Harvey really delivered on a rush job for us. His price for removal of two mature trees and stump grinding was the best of all the quotes I considered. He and his assistant Bradley were on-time, very congenial, and knowledgeable. The work was done promptly and professionally and the clean up went above and beyond expectations. If I ever need more tree service done, Custom Tree Solutions would be at the top of my list to contact. Be sure to ask Nathan for business cards to share with your friendsâ theyâ ll be glad you did."

"I can't say enough about this company. Came out earlier than expected and got the job done! This was cutting down a arborvitae that was over 15 ft tall. Cleaned up and hauled it away as well as drilling the stump out. Would hire them again without a second thought."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Trees that flower in the spring—like dogwood, cherry, magnolia, and pear—should not be pruned during the winter. These spring-flowering plants grow buds on old growth, so you’ll actually remove what would’ve been gorgeous flowering foliage. Instead, wait to prune until right after they bloom, when the flowers fade.

Deciduous shade trees (the type of trees whose leaves fall off in autumn) need to be pruned in late winter—between February and March. That’s because it’s easier to find and remove sick or dead branches when no leaves are present. And wounds close and heal faster in colder temperatures so pruning them at this time also makes them less prone to infection.

A tree can split because of high winds, a change in temperature, or from an infestation or tree disease. All of these factors can overlap, making a single cause difficult to pinpoint. While winter storms are some of the most common causes for a tree to split, it can also happen because of termites or rot.

It can be bad to leave a dead stump in the ground. A stump becomes a hefty piece of dead wood in time and eventually (especially with the help of rain) starts to rot. That makes it a locus point for diseases and pesky insects, as well as a bit of an eyesore. It’s best to remove a tree stump completely before it starts to decay, especially before it starts to fall apart. If the tree was removed because of disease, it’s even more important to fully remove the stump if possible.

We don’t recommend DIY tree trimming for a few different reasons. First, the tools required to trim a tree can be costly, up to $1,100 or more, for the ladders and specialized saws needed.

Safety is another concern, especially when working with more mature trees. As a guideline, you should only DIY tree trimming when branches are less than two inches in diameter. Any more, and the safety risk becomes too high, which could lead to catastrophe. For this job, it’s safest to let a tree-trimming professional assess the work needed.
