"It's a pretty decent system, I think. They send you the pieces and you install them yourself, which is pretty easy. The only real problem I have is that one sensor is too far away from the panel...or there's some interference, and they haven't been able to fix that. It's an interior door, so it's not the end of the world, just a little annoying. Their customer service is pretty good though. Nice, smart customer service people on the other end, very polite and helpful."

"Chris my sales person (405.203.7008) went ABOVE & BEYOND TAKING CARE OF ME!
Chris & Jerry made me feel like I was someone they've known for years. They were honest, straight-forward, worked with me on paint color choices, helped me pick-out new shingle colors and did everything they could to make sure this was a great experience. They met with my insurance adjuster, provided paperwork my mortgage company needed and had the work done quickly and efficiently. WOW they transformed my house! It is beautiful! The shingles are perfect with my brick and the color choices Chris helped me choose made my house pop on the street. I was worried about how the guttering would be placed on my home because some neighbors gutters are not attractive and standout in a bad way. Chris was very helpful in explaining how they would make sure it looked seamless.
I want to highly recommend this company if you are looking for any services: gutters, construction, roofing, anything call them first. YOU CAN DEFINITELY TELL THE HOUSES IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD THAT USED ROCA ROOFING, they all are very beautiful. I know that sounds strange to say, but most of my neighborhood had damage. The houses that used ROCA you recognize right away. They look beautiful! Other roofing companies some of my neighbors used looks blah/plain. I don't know if it is because ROCA has better craftsmanship or they use better quality materials; but I can spot a ROCA roof from the others.
GREAT JOB!!!

"We have a 4,000 square foot two story victorian style house in the country that was suffering from neglect.  We have attempted to refresh the paint in lower perimeter in the past, however, the upper level was something we could not handle.  We called three different companies for estimates and selected API Construction.  Raymond Ontiveros with API was the only company that gave us specific details of the work to be completed.  Raymond Ontiveros came out to inspect the job and gave us an estimate within 24 hours.  API was not the least expensive contractor, however, we felt they were able to complete all the work necessary.  We felt confident they would produce a quality paint job and they would be able to complete the necessary repairs.  We had a big party planned for October 29th and wanted the house finished before that date.

We signed a contract on Thursday with the work to begin on the following Monday.  To our delight Raymond asked if they could get started on Saturday.  They worked for at least three days to prep the house (including power wash, oil primer, scraping where needed, sealing, caulking and weatherproofing).  The house had several area with water damaged masonite trim above the brick line.  Raymond suggested we replace those areas with Hardie Plank siding which would keep the problem from recurring.  They completed replacement of the water damaged lap boards; replaced the porch baluster spindles and reinforced loose soffits.

When they removed the lap board siding on the north side of the house under the bay window, they discovered a lot of water and termite damage that extended to a wood panel close to the window.  They offered to replace the bad board and offered to seal the area between the brick line and the siding to prevent future damage.   Since they have completed the repair, I have noticed they have eliminated the cold air draft from the bay window area.

The carpenter on the job, Carlos, pointed out one area along the south side of the house that needed a drainage problem addressed.  The foundation of the house protruded out about five inches from the wall.  This was an area where water would accumulate and cause water damage.  (We wondered why the breezeway area would have water after a big rain)  He suggested the installation of metal flashing that would divert the water away from the house.  It works great.  During the last rain, we didn't  find water in the breezeway.

We really got excited when they started painting.  The work went really fast.  We could expect to see anywhere from two to ten workers on any given day.  The hardest part of the job was all the detail trim.  There are forty windows in the house and most  have trim.  The protected the windows with plastic sheeting and probably used hundreds of yards of masking tape.  I don't know how they were able to work in some of the spaces between the house and the hedges.  I washed the windows and I can confess some of the areas were really cramped.  Raymond and his crew provided an excellent restoration and top quality paint job.  Raymond would call every few days to make sure we were happy with the progress.

We are so excited with the finished product!  Raymond promised when they finished, the house would look new and he didn't lie.  They completed the work before the big party.  We had lots of compliments from our guests about how nice our house looks. The house is almost twenty years old, however, it looks brand new!

I would definitely recommend API Construction to anyone looking for excellent workmanship, professional restoration and a quality paint project."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Yes, in most cases, you can remove a fireplace while keeping the chimney. This process requires sealing the chimney at the bottom where it connected to the fireplace and capping it at the top. It is essential to consult a chimney professional or inspection specialist beforehand. They will need to determine if the chimney's structural integrity is sufficient to remain safely in place without the support of the fireplace.

To maintain a stove, clean the stove, chimney, or vent regularly. You should also use seasoned wood or pellets. Schedule an annual professional inspection to ensure safety.

How to light a gas fireplace depends on the particular model of gas fireplace you have in your home. In most cases, you can light gas fireplaces using a control panel, remote, key, or switch. You should reference your fireplace’s manual to see how your unit operates.

Ideally, your chimney cap should be at least 8 inches above the top of the flue, though it's better if it's even higher. You want it to sit that high because it won't affect the chimney's draft, which pulls the smoke up and out of your chimney and away from your home.

How big a fire pit should be depends on how many people you want to get around it on a regular basis, and how big your space is. The average fire pit size is between 36 and 44 inches. However, if you regularly host big gatherings and have the appropriate outdoor space, you can go as big as 72 inches.
