"These guys did a really good job. I love my floor and my new mini blind inserts. Planning on hiring them to do more work for me. UPDATE: I hired them to lay a patio and to paint the outside of my house. They did a good job, except they left some of the trash from the job, and now I have to figure out how to get rid of it."

"Ryan responded to my call for help within 30 minutes and came to my house later the same day. We had noises in the attic. He diagnosed the problem -- one of the largest squirrel nests he had ever encountered. He examined our entire house and discovered all the points of entry. He set up one-way traps, came to check on them regularly, removed the traps, closed up the entry points and then he and his team removed the huge nest. Ryan has followed up twice to make sure we haven't heard anymore noises! Ryan offers a 3 YEAR GUARANTEE ON HIS WORK!! That shows integrity, proud of his work and customer satisfaction. I have also deferred to Ryan for other professional referrals to help with home maintenance. Ryan will not disappoint!!"

"Stephen Painter, the owner of Boxer Fence is a top quality contractor. From the very beginning, in getting an estimate until the project was completed, he kept me informed of all developments. He readily came to measure the yard and within 2 days I had the estimate in contract form. Whenever I had a question, he responded quickly by phone. All his workers worked diligently and responsibly. I love my new beautiful fence!"

Fencing questions, answered by experts

While they can be closer, the maximum distance between fence posts for residential fences is 8 feet. This ensures the panels are adequately supported by the fence posts. This is usually dictated by the width of the panel, which is typically between 5 and 8 feet. While narrower panels will require more posts, they’ll be lighter and easier to work with than wider panels that are the same height.

Vinyl fencing stays popular with homeowners because it’s durable and aesthetically pleasing. In addition to offering plenty of privacy, vinyl fences have a life span of 20 to 30 years with minimal maintenance. You don’t have to worry about these fences warping or rotting due to moisture, and this material doesn’t contain toxic chemicals.

A fence post set in concrete lasts anywhere from five to over 25 years, depending on how well the concrete was applied and the fence post’s material. Untreated wood posts in concrete could last less than 10 years, but a durable, treated wood set in properly applied concrete could last a few decades. However, all fence posts will wear out eventually, so expect to need to replace your fence post every five to 15 years.

When considering how much of a gap should be under a fence or gate, a good rule of thumb is to keep gaps between 2 and 5 inches tall. This allows for some ground clearance for the gate but still provides safety for children and pets, who shouldn’t be able to squeeze through a gap of that size.

The depth of your post hole depends on your post length. If you decide on a two-rail fence, the posts are likely 6 feet long. You want your hole to be at least 1/3 of the post length. In this case, your post hole should be two feet deep.

If you opt for a three-rail fence, the posts will typically be 7 feet long, meaning your post hole should be 28 inches deep.
