They handled it of total care and stored it in our garage with all the very long trim pieces for installation next day. No, you do not need a garbage disposal to have a dishwasher. A dishwasher will work without one, and while it's rare to see a home with a dishwasher that doesn't have a disposal, it is possible. Use a regular screwdriver to pop off the snap ring, and the rest of the components should fall off by themselves.
