"We are builders and have been building in central Ohio for over 25 years. We are thankful to have known Dave. He is extremely knowledgeable, communicates detals in an easy way and is very prompt to deliver. He often finds other ways to engineer things that we hadnt considered which make him our 1st choice in engineers. We would highly reccommend him and his services."

"Had Betts Structural Engineering come and look at the foundation of a house we were in contract on. Josh came out and was professional and informative. He informed us the foundation was failing and explained what needed to be done. He throughly explained everything and told us how we could do it ourselves for much cheaper than a contractor could do it. In the end he saved us from a long and expensive process if we proceeded with the house."

"Overall I was not impressed with the quality of the work. I wish I had just made the nail pop repairs myself. The gentleman was friendly, professional, and easy to be around. He did leave 20 minutes early without asking if I was satisfied or needing anything else. This I only mention because the company charges 185.00 for a 2 hour block (166 was the Angie's list discount)."

"MBR Basement Repair is a company that provides quality work at a reasonable price. I hired them to fix up my backyard to help drain water away from the house along with installing a new fence and gate. They are friendly and were quick to respond to my inquiries about their services. When they arrived at my house to look at my backyard they were professional, on time and they listen and ask questions to really understand what I need for my backyard. They were patient with me, walking me through on what they would do and even made suggestions that would help serve my backyard needs better such as ,in my case, installing an underground downspout. The job was done quick and timely manner and of good quality and very reasonable pricing. Then end result was sturdy gate and fence and a clean and well graded backyard new downspout to drain water away. Will definitely look forward to using their services again when the time comes in the future."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Costs depend on furniture type, size, complexity, and whether additional modifications are needed.

The easiest way to tell if a wall is load bearing is to check if it’s an exterior wall or if it runs perpendicular to the joists above and below it (or parallel to beams). Exterior walls are almost always load-bearing, and walls that run under beams or parallel to them are also usually load-bearing. There are exceptions to these rules, and walls that don’t fit into these categories can still be load-bearing. If you’re unsure, hire a structural engineer to look at your home to assess whether or not the wall is structural.

You need to hire a structural engineer when building or modifying any component with a structural load in your home. Common situations where you would need a structural engineer include home inspections when buying or selling a home, investigating possible issues with your foundation, beams, load-bearing walls, or chimneys, breaking ground on a new home or structure on your property, and renovating an old part of your home that could threaten any structural integrity. Home additions and bump-outs also require an engineer.

A few hours for inspection, with a detailed report following in a week.

A structural engineer's report provides a professional assessment of a property's structural condition. It typically includes an evaluation of the foundation, key structural elements like roof trusses, floor joists, studs, beams, and rafters. The report will also contain a detailed description of the engineer's findings, often supported by photographs, and provide recommendations to correct any identified issues. Depending on the scope of the inspection, it might also include an assessment of property drainage, potential issues from environmental conditions like extreme weather or tree placement, and an estimated time and cost for any recommended repairs.
