"I recommend Carlton highly if you need any help with your countertops. We wanted an unused curved seating area removed on our kitchen counter to make the space more accessible. I called several countertop companies before I knew about Carlton and none returned my calls. I feel fortunate that I found Carlton because of his expertise at modifying and restoring stone, and he handles these custom jobs that countertop companies won’t touch. He replied to my initial inquiry within hours, came out to see the space first, and was able to work our job into his schedule in just a few days. He’s professional and manages the job while on-site very well. And he’s just a nice guy. Don’t hesitate to reach out to Carlton – you’ll be very happy with the results."

"American granite came out originally for a crack in our granite kitchen countertops. They did such a good job of fixing it, we had them clean and seal our whole kitchen and bathroom vanity. I was very impressed at the difference it made in the overall look and feel of the stone. My 10 year old countertops look like new again. I would recommend them to anyone who needs their granite countertops repaired or restored."

"Sinisa did an excellent job. He was thorough from the start. Took extra time to explain the processâ from stone selection to pricing and installation. We LOVE our new granite countertops and highly recommend Giantâ s Marble and Granite."

"Mr. Thompson rebuilt the steps to code including pitching the steps so that water drained away from my foundation. He used new brick and built several footers as well as using the flip-side of my existing stone pads that saved me approximately $900. I felt the price while higher than I anticipated was fair as another contractor was going to charge up to $2200 for just a repair that would not have solved the problem."

"I have used this company before and they have always done a through job especially with pre-treating pet stains.  On this occasion a pet stain remained on the carpet.  Also the technician bumped the wall coming down the stairs as he carried his machine and took a small nick out of the drywall.  I was standing in the hall when it happened.
The company called a few days later to check if the work was satisfactory.  When I reported these two problems the same technician was scheduled to return on 4/29/15 to treat and remove the stain and look at the drywall area.
He worked on the stain but it is still visible.  He looked at the drywall and didn't think he had done that while cleaning the steps.  I agreed and said it was done as he carried the machine down the stairs.  Nothing was done about the drywall.
I first used Downey Clean several months ago with a discount from Angie's List.  That first technician was fantastic!  The process seemed much more through than that of the technician who has come since.   I wish I had the name of the technician who came initially I would request him again.

"With the goal of replacing all flooring in the house (including conversion from carpet to hardwood) the company owner provided prompt on-site consultation.  This project needed to be coordinated with a gut and remodel of the kitchen and powder room. Ultimately, we chose to use Teppo's for the entire remodeling job.   Kevin made several visits to the house in the evening, bringing samples of cabinets, counters and flooring.  He coordinated a showroom visit with his favored cabinet and counter supplier, then returned with the kitchen designer twice to check measurements and design ideas.  He was knowledgable and easily addressed concerns about several small details in the remodeling process.  In the process, Kevin did not over-promise or gloss over specifics.  The price quote was in line with four other quotes that we had received but we saved a considerable amount by using Teppo's  family flooring wholesale connections - a savings that we applied towards nicer outfitting of the kitchen cabinets and quartz countertops.  His cabinet and countertop vendor discounts were also substantial.  We are excited to begin the project in the next few weeks.  Kevin is very professional (as are his vendors), listens very well to the customer and incorporates these points into his planning."

Stone Countertops questions, answered by experts

Natural stone is formed in deep layers of the Earth through natural processes over thousands of years. The solid composition formations become massive rock beds, or quarries, from which miners extract them.

The cost to install a kitchen island can range from $900 to $6,500, with an average price of around $4,800 for most homeowners. The final cost depends on whether you choose a prefabricated or custom-built option. It is generally cheaper to buy a prefabricated island than to build one from scratch. A budget-friendly prefabricated cart can cost between $150 and $900, while a permanent prefabricated stationary island costs from $900 to $5,000. Custom-built kitchen islands average $4,800 but can cost $10,000 or more, depending on factors like materials, size, design complexity, and accessibility.

Silestone® is a low-maintenance countertop material, but certain things, like strong chemicals and solvents, can cause damage. Abrasive scrubs can cause scratches, and products that contain oil or powder can leave a residue. Finally, avoid letting oven cleaner come into contact with Silestone® because it can cause discoloration.

Yes, Corian® and other solid surface countertops can be cut with standard woodworking tools like a circular saw or a jigsaw, but using the correct blade is crucial for the best results.

The recommended blade is a tungsten carbide-tipped blade, often called a solid-surface planer or triple chip grind blade. This type of blade is hard enough to cut through the material effectively. For a jigsaw, a fine-tooth down-cutting blade should be used.

It is important to note that a diamond blade is not necessary. Diamond blades are designed for harder materials like natural stone, concrete, or brick, and Corian is not a natural stone.

Using blades designed for wood is not recommended as they can cause microfractures that weaken the countertop's edges. While a tungsten carbide blade provides a much cleaner cut, the resulting edge will still be rough and must be sanded and smoothed to prevent microfractures from developing over time.

Granite is heavier than quartz, since it has a higher density. Quartz is made up of engineered stone, which is why it tends to weigh less than granite. Most granite countertops are ¾-inch thick and weigh about 13 pounds per square foot.
