"Mr. Jim Gorman who is the owner of the business called me back within a half hour of my email posting. He visited my home 3 days later, inspected things, and told me what the approximate cost would be. He and his helper then installed an entire lightning protection system on both my house and a back garage/storage area. He did things exactly as I wanted in every way. Also threw in a free weathervane which increased the beauty of my home. I would have no objection to recommending this gentleman and his company to anyone who is in need of a competently installed lightning protection system for their home/property. MID-AMERICA LIGHTNING RODS is one fine company run by a man who cares about doing good work according to the latest safety codes etc. Having lost my previous retirement home to lightning, it was very important to me to get this job done and quickly because the thunderstorm season is upon us and with the climate change, those storms are very wicked, especially here out in the country where i live!"

"WB Lightning Rods did an excellent job installing lightening rods on our home. The owner stayed onsite the entire time to supervise the work. He took extra care to plan the rod and cable placement to ensure the proper protection and retain the aesthetics of our home. His crew were knowledgeable, polite, neat and efficient. We could not be more pleased with the results."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, a light switch still has power even when switched off. Switches only interrupt or continue the flow of electricity into a fixture or outlet; they do not shut off the power flowing into the wire. The only way to shut off power in a light switch is to turn off the power at the circuit breaker.

Yes—if a breaker is old or damaged, it might not be able to detect power surges or electrical overload. If that happens, the breaker won’t trip. Instead, it will begin to overheat, putting your electrical system at risk of fire or total electrical failure. Circuit breakers don’t last forever, so you can proactively replace old or damaged breakers before they stop working.

Yes, you can plug an extension cord or an outlet extender into a GFCI outlet. The GFCI outlet will still be able to protect your system in the same way.

No, technically, the original Federal Pacific (FPE) breakers are no longer available. Stab-Lok® circuit breakers from the now-defunct Federal Pacific Electric Company (FPE) are no longer produced. However, the trademark and manufacture of the Stab-Lok® brand of breakers has been passed through a series of parent and subsidiary companies. Black and gray versions of the circuit breaker have been produced by these companies, with sales rights in the U.S. and Canada shifting back and forth.

If the fan doesn’t have a switch, connect the white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan; connect the green wire to the ground wire; connect both black wires; and connect both blue wires. If yours has a switch, the white and green wires are connected the same way. However, connect the ceiling’s red wire to the light’s black wire and the ceiling’s black wire to the fan’s black wire.
