The water heater install was a disaster. He did buy the heater we selected but after that it was down hill. He assured us that he would have it installed by someone qualified to enforce the warranty. He Lied. He didn't get the right parts to install it. They did remove the old water heater OK. The plumber didn't have the right tools or parts because he thought John was going to have everything there. So he was frustrated starting. Of course they had taken out the old one so we didn't have any hot water and he said he didn't want to leave us without hot water, but he should have. We needed to have a hole drilled through the foundation to vent the water heater. He didn't inform us or make any attempt to contain the mess he was about to make. My grandson who was visiting that weekend, came running out of the house saying, "Grandma, the whole basement is filled with red smoke" . Everything (and its a full basement that is full of storage and stuff) was covered with the red brick dust and all along the wall chunks of brick and stone. He went to our small town local hardware store and got parts that got us hot water but didn't meet the specs and didn't install it using the rings that would have made the hole look better. There's a sheet of paper on the outside that tells you exactly what should be done with the install. NOT DONE. He left it messy with old pipes capped off and the new lines coming off from pipes a foot or more away from the wall. We have not hired someone to clean it up, but are planning to do so this spring. (Again having to pay twice for the same thing) He did install the sun-setter but didn't finish it, so its starting to come apart. He did put up the rails with the new supports he said we needed that I bought, but they put the sleeves on upside down and drilled new holes in them so that now there are ugly holes showing. We talked about everything we wanted before we started and still every time we questioned what he was doing or not doing he acted surprised. We talked about already having some bad experiences and he seemed so sincere about doing a good job and doing it right, but again we feel taken. We both feel like we should have fired him but neither knew how we would ever get it finished if we did. We definitely should not have paid him as much as we did. We only held back $200 on his promise that he would get the water heater installed properly. Why we believed him at that point I don't know, but also just wanted him gone. He's an excellent salesman but NOT a good contractor. One worked from Oct. 11 to Feb 2nd, 2011 without finishing it and took off with some of the supplies and tools I'd purchased, although he did leave some materials. The other 6 have looked, said they could finish it and then either didn't contact me, or when I called them said they'd decided they didn't have the time (2) or they never called back (2) or I didn't think they were capable/reliable enough (2). The job seemed fairly straight forward to me, level and support the load bearing sections and then build two walls and turn one corner into a laundry room and the rest into lockable storage. Ram Jack joined the never called back category, which I feel was unprofessional of them. However, I did feel that they would fix it right, and I may call them back on some porch foundation issues I'm also having. Just want to add, this property is owned and operated by a small nonprofit to provide housing to adults with mental illness. He started October 2011 and said it would be two weeks. He had several different assistants, took off for weeks at a time and on Feb. 2nd looked me straight in the eye told me it would be finished by the end of the next week and I have never seen him again. He told me he had purchased items such as doors, but did not bring them to the work site due to \"lack of space\". He borrowed some of our tools for use on other sites, which I never got back. His plumbing was not done correctly, and now seems to have been removing copper pipes and replacing with plastic. He did build a wall around the parameter of the basement and did about 1/3 of the center wall. However, the center wall is now bowing. While he knew in theory what I needed, I don't think he knew how to accomplish it. My fault for buying a \"good talk\" and not getting license, insurance etc. Also fell for the sob stories and paid more up front than I should have. Just wanted to warn others. I have had to pay again to get the 1/2 bath finished and am trying to find someone to do the support work with the little money I have left."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/wv/mineral-wells/james-c-weaver-reviews-7481197.htm"},"position":8}]}

FAQs for plumbing handyman service projects in Waterford, OH
The average cost to hire a handyman ranges from about $40 to $140 per hour. Average project cost ranges between $180 and $700, but the cost per hour and per project depends heavily on the type, size, and complexity of the project. The pro’s experience level and your location also factor into how much a handyman charges per hour or per project. You can also expect to pay higher rates or additional fees for emergency services, or around periods of high customer demand, like holidays.
Yes, most states require plumbers to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
Do you have any before and after photos of your work?
How long have you been doing this kind of work?
Do you clean up and dispose of waste when the job is finished?
Yes, you should hire a handyman who’s licensed, certified, and insured, if possible. States have different requirements for handyman licensing, registration, and certifications. If licensing is required in your area, you may pay more for a licensed handyman with experience than one who is not licensed or certified, but you’re likely to get a better end result for your project. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local handymen guidelines.
The average cost to hire a plumber is around $100 an hour but can vary between $45 and $200 an hour depending on the plumber’s experience and the repair that you need. It’s also important to note that these prices can go up on holidays, and emergency plumber rates average $150 per hour, in addition to a flat-rate trip fee of $100 to $350.
