"Was able to promptly get an estimate for replacement of an electrical panel and was able to schedule work to be done in a reasonable period of time. Anthony was very professional and total cost ended up to be less than the original estimate!"

"I was pleased with the installation of the lightning rods--communication was great and the work was done quickly. What I wasn't happy with is he quoted me a price that was less then my actual bill was BUT the price was still less then two other contractors bids."

"WB Lightning Rods did an excellent job installing lightening rods on our home. The owner stayed onsite the entire time to supervise the work. He took extra care to plan the rod and cable placement to ensure the proper protection and retain the aesthetics of our home. His crew were knowledgeable, polite, neat and efficient. We could not be more pleased with the results."

"I installed an outdoor camera myself but needed installation for 3 more outdoor bullet cameras higher than I felt I could safely manage. Plus there was the unsteady task of running the wires 10 to 15 feet to the outlet and hiding them. Ryan patiently recommended and tested several locations to achieve the best field of view and cleanly hid all the wires. He was also more knowledgeable about the WIFI settings than the hours spent with the camera manufacturer's help desk. Amazing results, a very professional job. Highly recommend him."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

They’ll use more electricity than the average upright vacuum, but not remarkably more. Most power units plug into a standard 120-volt outlet and don’t have significant power demands. You shouldn’t notice an increase in electricity bills. If you have any specific questions about energy costs, ask your installer as you examine purchase decisions. Larger power units will need more electricity for their suction levels.

The dials on an electrical meter simply represent the number of kWh you have used since it was installed. In a five-dial setup, the left-most dial represents tens of thousands of kWh, while the next dial to the right represents thousands of kWh. The following dials going to the right represent hundreds, tens, and ones.

No, not all thermostats require a C-wire. Older manual and programmable thermostats typically do not need one. While many smart thermostats do require a C-wire to function correctly, some models can operate without one, often at the expense of certain features. A C-wire provides a constant source of power, which enables the thermostat to stay connected to Wi-Fi and keep its display screen lit on-demand. If you are upgrading from an older thermostat to a smart model that requires a C-wire, you may need to install one first for it to work as intended.

Yes, the National Electric Code (NEC) requires at least one GFCI outlet in each sectioned-off portion of an unfinished basement, partly to ensure a power source is available for a sump pump in case of flooding. If you install multiple outlets in your unfinished basement, all of them must be GFCI-protected. For finished basements, standard outlets are generally permitted, but at least one GFCI outlet is still required per circuit. Keep in mind that local municipalities may have additional codes, so it's best to consult a licensed electrician to ensure your home is fully compliant.

Circuit breakers can wear out, but it takes a long time. Circuit breakers typically last several decades if they don’t face problems like floods or frequent lightning storms. Worn-out circuit breakers may trip more frequently as time passes. However, they can also stop tripping altogether, which leads to electrical dangers. If your breakers have passed the 30-year mark, it’s time to consider an inspection.
