"I am very pleased with this company. The owner came out , looked at my deck, gave me a price and set up a date for the following week. They came when they were supposed to. They hand washed my deck and spindles (white vinyl) and then they power washed the deck, sides, back, the whole thing. He even did both sides of the siding on my house in the back. Ben was very pleasant to deal with and I would definitely hire him again when needed. Linda B"

"We did get several estimates and felt his price was in line with others we talked to. His work was well done and he was a considerate contractor trying his best to keep the mess down which is difficult to do when installing and finishing drywall. Overall it did take a bit longer than he expected but he worked around our schedule so we have no complaints at all. Our ceilings look great and we would hire him again in a heartbeat."

"I highly recommend Tim to anyone that needs a handyman service. He replaced and installed lighting and ceiling fans, rewired outlets so they could be moved, installed outlets, switches, and replaced a bathroom light/fan. He also drywalled my bathroom. He did an excellent job! He was very easy to contact. He made sure the job was done right. Heâ s trustworthy, I gave him a code to the house and he let himself in everyday. He always cleaned up after he was finished for the day. Timâ s services are very reasonably priced. If youâ re needing someone to do quality work I highly recommend giving Tim a call!"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Cutting the boards directly is one of the fastest ways to remove deck boards with hidden fasteners. Mark two parallel lines that are one-third of the total measurement on both ends and cut out the centerpiece. Then, remove the end of the board that doesn’t have a fastener. Finally, pry open the fastened side and pull it up to pop out the screw or access the fastener. This also allows you to salvage portions of boards for other projects.

A ground-level deck is a great idea for an outdoor space because it’s easy to access and doesn't require stairs or railings. You can install a ground-level deck near your home or farther away on your property. You can place a ground-level deck around a pool, fire pit, or near a view such as a lake, pond, or area of trees.

You can add a roof to most decks, but you need to have it inspected first. If your deck didn’t come with a roof initially, it may not be able to handle the weight without some structural changes. You can add additional supports to your existing deck to safely add a roof, and tying your deck’s roof to an exterior wall can help add some structural stability, but remember these aren’t DIY projects and need to be left to a pro.

You typically don’t need a railing and handrails on a deck that’s less than 30 inches from the ground. However, consider adding them regardless. Railings provide additional safety for you and your guests who use your deck—plus, railings give the deck a more finished look than it would have without them.

Whether to paint or stain a deck depends on your personal preference for appearance and budget. Stain provides a natural look with a range of undertones, is typically less expensive, and may only require one coat, but it does not last as long as paint. Paint offers a sleeker finish with a virtually unlimited color palette. Both options will protect your deck from outdoor elements like rain, snow, and general wear and tear.
