Since Monday, I have done some online investigating of this business. I see that American Window Cleaning is rated F on your website (note: I purchased as Buckeye Window Cleaning and could not locate this on Angie's but figured the amount wasn't so expensive so I bought the Living Social deal anyway (lesson learned)) I also went to the Better Business Bureau and saw that American Window Cleaning is rated F there as well. When I Googled Pacific Window and Gutter, I saw some negative comments about fraud/scams/etc. I believe Mike and Robert Urban (his grandfather) are doing business under the three company names as noted. Because of poor customer service and shady practices, they create new company names. The eeriest thing about these people is the website that they have linked to the Living Social voucher. It is www.rmurban3.wix.com/pacific-cleaning. When you first access it, a window with a story and photo is shown. The little girl supposedly has cancer and the story is asking for money for t-shirts to support the medical care of this baby. My guess is that this is bogus as well! The phone number on the Living Social voucher is a Tacoma, WA number. These people may be floating around from state-to-state. Today I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. On 10/14/13, I contacted Living Social about the company and my experience. Kendra in Customer Service credited my Living Social account with a $30 amount to be used on a future purchase. She agreed with me that the distance argument did not seem proper. She wanted to contact the merchant and then would let me know. I have not yet heard from her. LS needs to remove this deal from their website so no one else gets scammed.
Description of Work: I purchased a Living Voucher detail for 16 exterior and interior window cleaning. The voucher stated that distance restrictions apply; service area includes Franklin, Licking and Knox County; up to a 45-mile radius of 43215. There was a drop-down list of all zip codes in the service area (mine included) as well as an empty box for you to enter your zip code to see if you were in the range (which I also used). Due to a Columbus Day special, I got the voucher for $39.75. When I called the phone number to schedule the cleaning, I spoke with Mike Urban. He informed me that screen cleaning would be additional (no screens in my windows so that wasn't applicable) and that the industry cleaned by the pane, not the window as the voucher stipulated. Each additional pane would be $3.50 each and he would only accept cash. I was put off by the definition of a window vs. pane, but my goal was to get the exterior 2nd floor windows washed of which I had 17 panes. I figured a total of $39.75 plus $3.50 would be okay. Mike arrived on time and then took a walk around the house. He agreed that I had 17 panes. Then he surprised me by stating that I would also owe a $45 travel fee. I didn't understand because of the distance stipulations stated above. He said I was in Delaware County. We argued about how the voucher was written and I told him I didn't want him to do the work. However, he informed me that because I paid for the voucher, I had already entered the "contract" and would be liable for his travel there. I also was angry that this was not mentioned during our phone call when he had my address at that time. When I told him that I didn't have $48.50 in cash, he told me he would get started and I could go to an ATM. By then I was furious, but because of his demeanor (calm but almost creepy), I decided to get the money and get the transaction done. Forty-five minutes later when I returned, he said he was done and also "threw in" 9 additional panes on the first floor for "free". I glanced at his work and decided it was adequate (would give him a C). After paying him the cash, he told me that a window in the back had not been washed because his ladder would not reach. An associate named Jeremy would arrive the next day to clean it (8am). After Mike left, I cleaned all the interior sides of the windows he washed. Not only did he not clean the back window mentioned, but he also missed an entry half-moon window. I called and left a message that this window should be washed by Jeremy as well. The next day - no Jeremy - no surprise. I called and left a message that he now owed me for three panes. I am not holding my breath.
