My name is Leonard and I work for a big tree company during the week. In my off time I like to pick up tree work at affordable qoutes for homeowners. I am a Foreman at my main job and have been doing professional tree work for 3 years. I am straight forward about things and always happy to help out and see trees transform with more life or open an area up to allow for other things to be placed in that space

"Title: Exceptional Service, Eco-Friendly Solutions, and Tree Preservation! Review: Our recent experience with DC Tree & Landscape Design was truly outstanding. Dan and Ryan demonstrated a level of professionalism and expertise that surpassed our expectations. From the beginning, Dan's knowledge of horticulture shone as he not only provided a reasonable estimate but also offered valuable insights into the plants in our yard, their life cycles, and eco-friendly solutions for weed management. What truly impressed us was Dan's dedication to preserving our landscape's natural beauty. He identified and addressed an issue with our beloved Japanese Maple tree, ensuring its health and longevity. This level of care and attention to detail was exemplary and greatly appreciated. When Dan and Ryan returned to complete the work, they did so with precision and care. They expertly took down trees, performed pruning, and engaged us in discussions about garden design and plant selection. Their professionalism was matched only by their eco-conscious approach to landscaping. Their commitment to environmentally friendly practices, paired with their exceptional service, makes DC Tree & Landscape Design the ideal choice for any landscaping project. We are incredibly pleased with the results and highly recommend Dan and Ryan to anyone in need of tree services or garden design. Thank you, Dan and Ryan, for not only saving our Japanese Maple but for exceeding our expectations in every way!"

"They did what i asked them to do. They worked around the flower beds as they took down the branches! They told me about an Amish man who buys and removes trees. That would be a way to reduce my tree and shrub project."

"We had started a DIY bathroom installation. The demolition and start of the preparation was in progress, but it didn't take long to realize completing the remodeling would require a professional. My husband began a search, and we were very lucky to have found Shane. He came in, provided and very reasonable estimate, and began the work. The tile we chose was not the easiest to install. He gave educated recommendations on how to complete the design, which was extremely appreciated. As each step was completed, and I came home to see the progress, it was so exciting. The finished bathroom is beautiful. Shane's attention to detail, made a simple remodeling job, something that will certainly add value to our home. His tasks included wall tile, shower stall tile, floor tile, paint, plumbing installation and finishing touches of towel racks and fixtures. He completed all of these tasks with confidence and professionalism. I would highly recommend Shane for any remodeling job, and intend to continue to use his services for other jobs in the future"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

The ideal time to prune a tree depends on the type of tree. Typically, late winter or early spring is a good time to prune but isn't always the case for "towering trees." It's best to trim when trees are dormant and before blooms appear but can vary depending on the tree type. It's always best to research the type of tree or ask a professional tree trimmer to determine when is the perfect time to prune your tree.

Not all leaning trees are dangerous, but they can be a hazard as gravity may eventually cause them to fall. A key factor is whether the lean is new or has been present for a long time. Trees that have grown with a lean for years are not typically an immediate danger, but a sudden lean is a cause for concern as it often indicates weakening roots. If a tree is leaning more than 15% from vertical, you should consider having it straightened or transplanted. To be safe, it's always best to hire a professional arborist to inspect any leaning tree to assess the risk and avoid potential accidents.

Deciduous shade trees (the type of trees whose leaves fall off in autumn) need to be pruned in late winter—between February and March. That’s because it’s easier to find and remove sick or dead branches when no leaves are present. And wounds close and heal faster in colder temperatures so pruning them at this time also makes them less prone to infection.

Yes, cutting a tree's roots can cause it to fall, particularly if major support roots are severed. In extreme cases, trimming roots can affect the tree's structure and stability. Many crucial roots are located just below the soil's surface. If you make severe cuts to roots more than 2 inches in diameter, you risk impacting the tree's water flow and its ability to withstand severe winds or storms. Even cutting roots less than half an inch in diameter under or outside the tree's canopy can cut off its water supply, causing it to decline, die, and eventually topple.

Since overwatering can harm mature trees just as much as a lack of water, it’s important to know the signs of an overwatered tree. If your tree’s leaves are yellowing, wilting, or dropping leaves, it’s likely that you’re overwatering. Other common signs include rotting, fungi, soggy soil, soft or peeling bark, falling leaves, and brittle roots.

If you realize that you’ve been overwatering your mature tree, stop watering and give the soil time to dry out. Then moving forward, increase time between watering sessions.
