"Steve arrived on time to inspect the basement of our family home for mold. He was very professional and thorough in his review of our our basement walls and spaces, and informed us we need to remove some old paneling and ceiling tiles, and could do much of the needed cleaning on our own. We appreciate Steve's honesty and taking his time to explain things to us in easy to understand language and providing additional tips to keep good air quality in our basement. We will highly recommend AirGuard to our family and friends for similar services."

"I had a pretty bad flood in my basement after the heavy storms that came through back in June. I realized that my sump pump was the reason so I needed to replace it. I wanted something with more horsepower and after doing some research, I decided an ejector pump would work best for my home. Tyler was very friendly and understanding of my situation. He told me about some options, gave me the literature and a fair price for what I wanted. He and his team were very professional and attentive and definitely knowledgeable about the equipment and installation process. I was a little apprehensive about going with a company that’s just starting out, but Tyler gave me a good feeling about their company and products. I’m very happy with the installation and the service I received. I wouldn’t hesitate to contact them again (although I hope I never have to) for any future needs. We have multiple rental properties, so I would call him first if I ever need service at any of them. A+++"

"Ryan H. came out to determine the problem. He has excellent people skills, that seem very genuine--not scripted. He did not try to look around for other needs, but spent the entire time addressing my concerns. He used a camera to carefully inspected the footers and checked all the outside drainage away from the house, and clearly told me what he recommended. He itemized the costs of jetting all accessible storm drains and the installation of dry wells at the end of two drains, that over time were partially filled with water and mud due being in low spots on the edge of the woods. He came out with Pete, who also was friendly and eager to explain what was happening, as they worked to remove the blockage from a long area of pipe. It appears to have been blocked by dry, hardened mud for a period of years, as I did not suspect due to a dry basement floor. I would call WyattWorks again, especially for major plumbing needs, because they have knowledgeable, courteous and friendly people. I will be calling next year to have them check the footers of my house, as I plan to sanitize and paint the basement this winter."

"

So the wife dumped a bucket of tofu down the garbage disposal on a Saturday evening which was the final straw that broke the camel's back so to speak. We called a competitor who came in Sunday and assessed the issue. The price was a bit high so my wife wanted a second opinion.

We called Mr. Rooter on Monday morning who came out the same morning, assessed the issue, and came up with the same diagnosis as the competitor -- that the drain was plugged badly and/or broken and needed to be excavated as it was located inside the cement basement floor. Note that this drain was for the kitchen sink, dish washer, basement utility sink, and clothes washer. The technician, Chris Balogh gave us a price that was $300 less than the competition. We said 'OK' and he immediately went to work. He found that a p-trap had been installed under the cement floor and it was badly plugged and corroded.

Chris replaced all the metal pipe runs under the kitchen floor with PVC pipe and used straight pipe where the p-trap was previously. Besides, all the appliances mentioned previously already had separate p-traps. Chris was there for around 6 hours. Before he left, he cemented the hole, cleaned up the work area, and instructed us on what he did, how soon we could start using the appliances, and also how soon we could move the clothes washer back into place over the newly cemented hole.

With that said, we're very happy with Mr. Rooter's responsiveness, professionalism, and of course price compared to their competition. Will definitely call Mr. Rooter in the future if necessary.

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

Whether to waterproof your basement from the interior or exterior depends on several factors, including your budget.

Exterior waterproofing is generally considered the superior method because it stops water at the source, preventing it from seeping into and damaging your basement walls. This approach offers the most protection, making it ideal if you use your basement for storage.

By contrast, interior waterproofing is often less expensive and requires less labor because the area is more accessible.

For maximum protection against water leakage and moisture, applying waterproofing measures to both the inside and outside is the best solution. However, if you must choose only one, stopping water from the outside is the most effective approach to preserve your foundation and prevent damage.

If you decide to fill the space around your home’s foundation with landscaping materials, it’s important to consider the aesthetic as well as technical factors like drainage and protection from pests and the elements. Materials such as gravel, rubber mulch, concrete, and brick masonry are all good options.

Brick is designed to absorb moisture, but it is also designed to let it evaporate as well. So in general, the goal shouldn’t necessarily be keeping moisture out but making sure it has the room to breathe. If you have excess moisture getting through your brick wall, it’s more likely that you have a crack or other issue at play that a typical sealant won’t fix. So, instead of investing in sealant, try repairing your brick wall instead.

You should plan on waiting at least a year and ideally two to three years after construction before finishing your basement. This will give the foundation time to settle in response to the weight of your home and the expansion of the surrounding soil. You can then repair your foundation and seal any cracks as needed before finishing it to reduce your risk of future leaks or other issues.

Unfortunately, mold can grow pretty much anywhere, on any kind of surface. However, you’re most likely to see it in damp areas like basements or bathrooms, as well as anywhere there has been a water leak. Consult a local mold specialist to determine if certain areas of your home are prone to mold based on climate and other factors.
