"First contacted Mid-Ohio Asphalt in April, 2016. Got estimates from 2 other companies besides Mid-Ohio. The other 2 contractors wanted to replace the entire driveway to the tune of $10,000.00; Mid-Ohio stated a full replacement was not necessary. Instead, they removed deteriorated areas, ground down a 4'-6' width to a 2" depth, and hauled away all the debris. They then laid a leveling course of asphalt followed by an asphalt finish material. They graded the driveway perfectly so run-off is away from the house/garage. They also raised/relaid a service walk which runs alongside the driveway so it is level with the drive. The result is beautiful! And the company states the work will hold up for 20+ years, the same longevity as a brand new driveway. I waited over a year before writing my review to see how the driveway held up through the winter. I'm happy to report there were zero problems! My only complaints with regards to the service I received were that, after contracting with the company in May, the work was not performed until August, and communication was lacking at times. However, I was not particularly bothered by this. Bottom line: Mid-Ohio delivered a quality product at a great price. They treated me fairly and professionally and were cognizant of my budget."

"I would HIGHLY recommend Hegedus Hardscape for ANY paver project you have. We had a 15+ year old paver walkway and and patio that had gradually sunk, creating 2-3 inches of water in several areas when it rained due to poor original installation. Sandor Hegedus came and explained the problem thoroughly and recommended the appropriate way to correct our situation. We watched every step of their process and are EXTREMELY impressed with their professionalism and quality of work. They are a family owned and run company that truly cares about their work. Their cleanup was amazing. We undoubtedly will never have to worry about our pavers again! Thank you Sandor, Viola and family... you all should be PROUD!"

"The driveway turned out nicely. However, the contractor did not call before digging and cut a main cable tv line. We have buried power lines in our neighborhood and this could have been much worse."

"D and A Hauling was true to their word and did a stump grinding job for me. Iâ m retired and appreciate their very competitive quote. The man doing the actual grinding did a thorough job of removing the stump. I will recommend them and certainly call them again in the future if I need such services again.. Very happy in Canal Fulton, Dave S"

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.

Box fill refers to the maximum number of conductors that can be contained within a wiring enclosure box, as well as the total volume of the components. Determining the allowable number of conductors in a box requires adding up the number of conductors, clamps, support fittings, devices and equipment, and equipment grounding conductors to make sure you’re within the allowable volume.

Heated driveways cost an average of $12 to $25 per square foot. Depending on the size of your driveway, you may pay between $3,500 to $25,000 in total. Several factors can affect your bottom line, including material, labor, and system types. Investing in a heated driveway can save on snow removal costs because it will automatically melt the snow that falls on your driveway.

Many asphalt companies have experience with tar and chip paving, but not all. The process is unique enough—and not incredibly common enough—that you may have to look around for a tar and chip specialist. However, speaking with a driveway company is a great place to start, especially if they have experience with multiple materials.

Three inches is a great thickness for a residential asphalt driveway that sees minimal to moderate traffic from cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks. However, a thicker driveway can better withstand the weight of a heavier vehicle, such as a trailer or a recreational vehicle. If you drive a heavy vehicle on a thin driveway, you risk cracking and damaging it.
