"I contacted All County Drainage Contractors via the Angie's List messaging system. I got a timely response and a ballpark estimate for my job. Satisfied with the ball park estimate, I called and scheduled an appointment within the next week. Two individuals arrived at the expected time and we went over what I was hoping to have done. In addition, I asked a few questions about other plumbing concerns I had with our new home. They were very willing to answer my questions and take a look around. They even agreed to install an additional valve, since I had the parts and the installation would be very quick. Both the valve on the toilet and the additional ball valve were installed and the water in the house was turned back on. As of 2 weeks later, both installations seem to be working great. I would definitely call All County again for additional plumbing needs and would consider them for other services they provide."

"They were professional and quick. It was a bit pricey in my opinion but most plumbing usually is. We had a clogged drain and they did a mechanical snake from the roof down the vent pipe for $450. They also threw in a 30 day warranty in case the snake didn't fully clear the block, which is reassuring. However, they were confident that the block was resolved. Toilets and shower are draining so it's looking like it worked. Would hire again."

"Chris was great and very communicative and friendly! He took care of all of my needs and is helping me with some other projects as well. We got the outlets changed out and he moved my toilet and reinstalled it with a new flange since the old one was rusted! Will keep doing business with him."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can have a toilet without a septic tank. However, it will have to be a composting toilet. Composting toilets work similarly to aerobic septic systems in that the waste, which sits in a separate compartment below the toilet itself, is slowly broken down by aerobic bacteria. These toilets typically have a vent to get rid of harmful gasses with a fan, which requires a battery. You will have to dispose of waste in the toilet manually every three weeks to every three months, depending on how many people are using the toilet.

Ensuring your toilet will fit starts with measuring the rough-in, but there are a few other factors to consider. The toilet tank's height and the toilet's depth should fit comfortably within the bathroom’s current setup. When considering depth, look at the walking space around the toilet to ensure it fits in the bathroom.

If you notice water leaking down the side of the bowl or tank and you don’t notice any cracks in the porcelain, the odds are that it’s condensation. If you notice water around the base of the toilet, this points to a leak. Check for loose bolts. A sewage odor may also indicate a broken toilet flange.

For best results, you should remove the toilet in a bathroom before removing tile or installing new tile. If you don’t remove the toilet, it will be harder to fully waterproof the tile around the toilet, which could increase the risk of mold growth or plumbing leaks. If you have trouble removing the toilet, hire a plumber to help.

Whether wall-mounted or floor-mounted toilets are better comes down to personal preference.

Overall, standard floor-mount toilets are less expensive to purchase and install, but they don’t offer the streamlined, modern appearance and adjustable height of wall-hung toilets. Ease of cleaning should also be considered, as wall-hung toilets are easier to clean than standard models.
