"Freedom Contracting did a fantastic job on our bathroom remodel! We are so happy with how it looks. It needed remodeling so bad. Brandon and his crew consulted with us every step of the way. Made suggestions along the way that really made the difference. They are very knowledgeable and when they start a job they stay on it till completion. Dependable and trustworthy. We will be recommending them to everyone we know. Ray & Cathi Fiorentino"

"We first met with Elias in October 2014 to obtain a quote for finishing our Attic space. We were impressed by his knowledge, professionalism and how his quote was both reasonable and highly detailed. We decided that our finances would be better used in remodeling our kitchen and worked with Elias over the next several months on multiple designs and quotes for our kitchen project. This would have included tearing out a wall between our kitchen and dining room, adding a support beam, replacing all our old cabinets, counters, flooring, backsplash, lighting, adding additional outlets, installing new appliances and painting.  Total project was priced around $15,500.  Due to the amount of changes we requested and Elias's great attention to detail it often took extra time to get his quotes back and occasionally we had to reach out to him via e-mail to check the status of various quotes. When he did meet with us, he was generally prompt and would spend as much time as we needed discussing our options.  We had looked forward to working with him and his company, but personal circumstances prevented us from moving forward with our project at this time.

"Work was done quickly and was both excellent and affordable. I was in the process of selling the house and needed to ensure the garage and front gutter were fixed quickly but also well done. Bob and team was responsive and did an excellent job. Would highly recommend this team!"

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

When choosing materials for finishing basement walls, consider factors such as moisture resistance, durability, and fire resistance. Opt for materials specifically designed for basement environments, like moisture-resistant drywall or cement board. Insulation with vapor barriers can help regulate temperature and prevent condensation. Consider using mold-resistant paints or coatings.

Research and consult with experts to select materials that are suitable for your specific basement conditions and intended use. Prioritize quality and compatibility to achieve long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing results.

Although homeowners often use the terms basement remodeling and basement finishing interchangeably, they are quite different terms.

Finishing a basement is the process of taking a basement space that is not habitable and adding elements to make it usable. This includes adding plumbing, flooring, and insulation.

Remodeling a basement means taking an already existing finished basement and changing it, often by adding or removing walls, adding plumbing, or changing the existing flooring.

Kitchens and bathrooms are typically the most expensive rooms to renovate. The high cost is due to several factors, including expensive appliances like ranges, hoods, and refrigerators, as well as costly fixtures. The 'bones' of the room, such as electrical and plumbing, are also expensive to move or replace. Because of the vast amount of prep work, finishing, and specialized labor involved in a relatively small footprint, these projects can cost double or more than a living space remodel. Even when trying to renovate on a budget, kitchens and bathrooms will likely carry a hefty price tag.

You technically can paint wires in a basement ceiling, but there are several important safety and code considerations. It's safe to paint non-metallic sheathed cable as long as the labeling remains visible. You can also paint low-voltage wires and conduit and junction boxes to help them blend into your basement.

However, you should not paint damaged or deteriorated wiring is a fire hazard because it poses a fire hazard. The same goes for painting over high-heat wires that connect to heat-generating appliances or systems. Be sure to avoid painting multiple coats onto any wires, as that traps heat and poses fire risks.

Yes, most general contractors require an initial down payment. A reasonable deposit is typically between 10% and 25% of the total project cost, although this can vary by project size and location. This upfront payment helps the contractor cover initial costs like materials, permits, licensing, and hiring subcontractors. The remaining balance is usually billed according to a schedule outlined in your contract, often tied to project milestones or completion dates. Be cautious of contractors who ask for a large deposit of 50% or more, as this could be a red flag for a scam.
