"My wife and I decided that we needed to convert our tub/shower in the bathroom to a “walk-in” shower. There are a plethora of ads on tv and in circulars for bath remodels, so after checking a few local companies we decided to call Bath Expo first. They have a display at a local Meijer which enabled us to see three model designs. This impressed us because the store is family owned and has a very good reputation in our community. We liked some features from each model, but wondered if they could be combined. Bob was our salesperson. He had years of experience in home remodeling mostly with a company we had used in the past for our patio with positive results. He explained the Bath Expo did not use subcontractors and that he would personally inspect the final results to make sure that he and we were satisfied. Most importantly, he answered all our questions to our satisfaction and ensured us that we could “mix and match” features from all “mock up” displays at the grocery store. A few we"

"Kreative home remodel llc, did awesome work. They took an aged sunporch and turned it into a beautiful laundry room that exceeded my expectations. We had a couple of small hiccups but what project doesn't. I would highly recommend kreative home remodel. It's just a father and son team but the quality of work is excellent. Thank you Daniel and Nate for creating a beautiful room out of nothing. It was a pleasure working with you both."

Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel questions, answered by experts

Whether replacing a bathtub with a shower affects your home's value depends on several factors, with the most significant being whether it's the only tub in the house. Removing the sole bathtub can lower a home's value because many prospective buyers, particularly families with young children or pets, require at least one.

However, a tub-to-shower conversion can also increase home value. A modern walk-in shower is often seen as an upgrade in a secondary bathroom and can be a desirable feature for its accessibility and style, appealing to older homebuyers or those without children. The overall impact is also influenced by your local real estate market and its typical buyer demographic.

If your bathroom layout allows, installing both a freestanding bathtub and a separate shower can be an ideal solution that appeals to the widest range of potential buyers.

There are many benefits of converting a tub to a walk-in shower, including:

  • Increasing home value (if there’s another tub in the house)

  • Taking up less space and improving bathroom space flow

  • Making bathrooms look larger

  • Improving home safety by removing a major trip-and-fall hazard

  • Easing showering for those who benefit from more accessibility

  • Saving money on water bills

The order of your bathroom renovation should prevent damage to the completed work. Start with demolition and removing the old fixtures. Then, address structural repairs or water damage, if needed. Next, tackle the rough-in phase for plumbing and electrical work, install waterproofing, and work on wall treatments like tile or paint. Install your shower or bathtub, toilet, vanity, and sink. Flooring goes in after major fixtures but before the toilet. Lastly, install new lighting fixtures, mirrors, and other finishing touches as desired.

While a bathroom vanity doesn't need to be flush with the side wall, it’s best to install it that way where possible. Achieving a flush fit can enhance aesthetics and create a cohesive look, plus it will help conceal and safeguard your plumbing. However, exceptions can be made based on design preferences and available space. Be sure that there’s sufficient clearance for drawers and cabinet doors to open comfortably. Additionally, consider factors like plumbing and room layout when deciding on the vanity's positioning relative to the side wall.

It is less expensive to build up than it is to add a bedroom or a bath if you want to increase your home's square footage. This is because it requires less material and labor to do so. Adding a second story only requires additional framing and structure without the need for a new foundation or space on a property.
