"Brad was excellent and very professional! My project was the assembly of a large, wide storage shelf?and he replaced a light that had broken off in the socket while he was here also. I look forward to getting my ?To Do? list together now that I know who to call!"

"The walls had many issues it was painted in a flat off white to hide all the problems. They had to resurface the entire area in the kitchen and other areas then sand to make the walls look normal again before starting to paint. They prepped very well so as not to get paint or dust from sanding on any of your items and took whatever time was needed to complete the project in a beautiful manner and no unexpected fees added after the original quote, They cleaned up everything before they left were very respectful at all times and the areas of the house they painted look great. I'd like to have them back when I can afford to paint the other rooms mostly on the 2nd floor. I would highly recommend them."

"This is an outstanding business. The owner Brian came out quickly, gave me a great quote and started the work during the time I requested. Our house had not been painted in 14 years and he did a great job on the prep work and the painting. He even repaired some areas we had damaged taking out the vanities. I have recommended him to a couple of my friends and plan to hire him again to do some outside painting. I can't thank him enough the house looks beautiful. Thanks Brian."

Painting questions, answered by experts

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.

You can use latex or acrylic paint outdoors. Although acrylic paint tends to last longer outside, it also costs more, so if you’re painting the outside of your house, for instance, latex paint is often a go-to option. However, acrylic will be your best choice if you want to spend some extra money for added durability.

Shadowbox fence maintenance depends on the material. But for wood shadowbox fences, maintenance typically includes annual cleaning to prevent mold growth, resealing or staining every two to three years, and promptly replacing any damaged or rotted boards. Vinyl fencing, on the other hand, typically only requires annual cleaning with a hose to maintain its appearance.

Whitewashing isn’t permanent, but it can last for a long, long time. When you apply it correctly or have a seasoned pro whitewash your brick, whitewashing can last for 20 to 30 years or longer. Whitewash is very durable and typically requires little maintenance, making it a great project for most DIYers.

You can apply stain over peeling stain, but it’s not a good idea. Your old stain will get in the way of your new stain bonding to the wood, so you’re likely going to see the same issue again shortly after application. Your best option is to sand off the old stain and clean the surface thoroughly before applying new stain.
