"Working with Morgan and his team was a very good experience. All the workers were very professional and went above and beyond to accommodate me. They painted the interior of my home including the ceilings and installed quarter round trim in all the rooms. They did a great job. You canâ t go wrong with 5 Star Painting."

"I recently hired Birdies Fencing to install a new along my parking lot, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results! From start to finish, the entire experience was exceptional. The team was professional, friendly, and efficient, ensuring the job was done on time and with great attention to detail. They helped me choose the best materials for my needs and made sure everything was exactly how I envisioned. The quality of the fence is outstanding, and it really enhances the look of my property. I highly recommend Birdies Fencing to anyone looking for top-notch fencing services. Truly a 5-star experience!"

"My experience with Dennis was fantastic! Not only did they do an incredible job at cleaning my gutters, while on site, he had some concerns about my roof. He called me and took pictures to document the damage of my roof so I could engage the appropriate resource. Fortunately, my roof is under warranty, but I would have had no idea there was an issue had Dennis not said something. It certainly shows the type of person he is to express concern and document accordingly. Outside of that, the gutters look fantastic and he resolved that issue for me. They did a great job cleaning up after the job as well and was provided before and after pictures of my gutters. Going forward, I will have Dennis/B&D out annually to clean my gutters and intend to use him to clean/stain my deck in the next year or two. I highly recommend them."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

To prepare a deck for a hot tub, start by thinking about safe and easy access in and out of the tub. Homeowners should plan for steps or consider built-in seating, a level surface around the perimeter, and a clear, slip-resistant path from the house. A hot tub requires sufficient space around it for comfortable entry and exit, ensuring no awkward squeezing or stepping over high edges. Good lighting and handrails can also make a big difference, especially for nighttime use.

Floating decks are a cost-effective and versatile option, but they come with some compromises. Since they sit on smaller footings instead of being deeply anchored, they’re more likely to shift over time, especially in areas with heavy rainfall or freeze-thaw conditions. Their low-to-the-ground design makes them more susceptible to moisture buildup and potential water damage.

No, termites do not eat Trex or any other composite decking brand. Termites eat cellulose, of which composite decking like Trex contains very little compared to natural wood. This feature can help justify the higher Trex decking costs if you live in an area with abundant termites.

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.

Composite decking boards aren't your only options for building a deck. There are several other types of materials for decks, including wood and aluminum decking. Wood decking comes in many different wood species, offering natural beauty and classy timelessness to your yard. Aluminum is a lightweight, water-resistant, and low-maintenance material that is also non-slip.
