"I had been trying for 6 months to get someone to work on my front steps. Only two contractors out of about 10 even bothered to get back to me. The first one said they would do it in two weeks which turned into 3 months. I got tired of waiting so I went with the second contractor, Tricamo Excavating & Land Clearing, LLC. Josh Tricamo called me right away to got me an estimate in a few days. A couple of weeks later, as he had to wait for my partial payment to purchase the sandstone required, the job was finished. It was done right and I am very happy with the result and price. I would recommend him to anyone. Thanks Josh!"

"One of the most driven young men Iâ ve come across. I hired him to remove an old 12x20 shed and he was in and out before i arrived home from work. Within the following weeks be returned to lay stone around my home and build a fire pit where the shed used to be. When it comes to landscaping or machine work, heâ s the guy to call."

"These guys are amazing! They work hard and they do an excellent job. We have them come every year to update or replace our mulch, any shrubs that may need replacing and do the trimming. Here?s a few pics of some of the work they?ve done this year."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

There are many ways to cut through roots when digging, especially if your trencher doesn’t seem to be removing the roots. First, use a shovel to expose the roots. Then, use gardening shears to clear out smaller roots or a reciprocating saw to remove larger plant roots. If you plan on keeping the plant, avoid cutting any roots over 2 inches thick.

Call 811 to locate and mark the gas lines at least three days before digging. In many areas, you can dig within 18 inches of the lines, though in some locations, the distance may be further. Check local regulations, as you may need a utility company representative onsite when digging. Document your calls to 811 and precautions taken to avoid gas lines. A homeowner can be held liable for hitting a gas line in some cases, but contacting the proper authorities and following all guidelines can offer protection.

Trenching and boring are two distinct methods for installing underground utilities. Trenching involves digging a channel using equipment like an excavator, trencher, backhoe, or shovel. While it is a simpler process, it causes significant disruption to the surface, landscaping, and surrounding ecosystems.

Boring, also known as directional boring, is a less invasive alternative that uses a drill to create a tunnel for utility lines without disturbing the surface. This method is more precise and is ideal for installations that need to go underneath buildings, roads, or bodies of water. Although boring is less disruptive, it is generally more expensive than trenching.

Yes, an excavation company is the best option for land grading and yard leveling. General landscapers might be able to tackle these projects, but an excavation company will do a better job because they’re used to operating the necessary heavy machinery. Landscapers might opt to do the work manually, which takes much longer and could cost you more in labor fees. Finally, excavation companies will understand local regulations and know when you need permits to legalize the work, while a landscaper might not.

Whether you grind or dig up and remove your tree stump depends on your landscaping goals. Using a stump grinder leaves the root system in place for it to decompose over time, whereas digging up the tree stump removes the roots and the stump. Overall, stump grinding is a far simpler process since you won’t need to deal with the roots. Stump removal will make your yard look like a demolition site, but you’ll have an easier time replanting in the same place as your former tree.
