"it was fine. They did what they were supposed to do. They cleaned my air ducts and that fixed my problem. Plus, the guy was very courteous and made sure my home was clean when he left! My only issue was that it took a longer time to get an appointment scheduled."

"Overall, very well. The in-person team was professional - always addressed my wife and i with courtesy. Answered any question. Presented options when decisions needed. knowledgeable-team lead very knowledgeable. Packing a 20' truck so no load shifts is much more difficult than simply sticking stuff in the truck. prompt - arrived in Akron, from Columbus on time. efficient- could estimate amount of time needed. Was very accurate. There was little cross talk among team. They just worked. Basement items were moved upstairs using a relay system, which the team lead initiated. He was former military and used to organizing a team and his team was used to his style - they had a shorthand among themselves. Besides the normal 'don't break my stuff' concern, we had an Amish made pub styled wood dining room set. There was strong sentimental value to the set. During our initial walk through, the team lead took note and that was the end of it. The set got extra care, a separate space in the truck. The acid test: absolutely no load shift 15 miles and many bumpy roads later. We even took their picture as we felt they helped us 'home'. My only caution is to the Willoughby office - we were charged travel time. But the office couched it as an 'equipment expense'. This travel charge increased our hourly rate by $29/hr. Boo. We liked the team so much, we looked over the transgression."

"We own a home-based business which relies heavily on our computers operating efficiently. We have had a service contract with another computer repair business for several years. Recently when we were having problems with our computers, we tried contacting our service contractor multiple times. He never responded. Feeling frustrated, I contacted James at North Alabama Technical Services and explained our situation. He instantly came to our rescue. He "cleaned-up" our computers and took care of all the problems we were experiencing. He went above and beyond to help us in our dire time of need. We would strongly recommend James and his company for computer service needs. We have now retained him on a service contract and are looking forward to working with him in the future."

Central Vacuum Systems questions, answered by experts

The best way to clean central vacuum pipes is to use a maintenance sheet to dislodge clogs and wipe the inside of the pipes clean. Alternatively, a professional can clean your central vacuum pipes for you.

While caulking is handy for quite a bit of jobs, it’s still limited. Any crack or gap larger than 1/4 inch is best left for a more intensive repair job. When you hire house painters, they should run a thorough check to see what they need to repair before they start the job.

Large repairs that caulking typically won’t do well with include cracks or holes larger than a 1/4 inch, rotted wood, or metal surfaces, such as garage doors.

Before deciding whether or not to install a central vacuum system, consider the pros and cons to determine if it’s right for you.

Pros

  • Increased suction power

  • Improved air quality

  • Reduced noise pollution

  • Longer lifespan than traditional self-contained vacuum units

Cons

  • Higher upfront installation costs

  • Expensive repairs

  • Requires significant storage space

Whether talking about a whole-house central vacuum or a portable vacuum cleaner, the expected cost of major repair work should always be balanced against its replacement cost. However, excluding high-cost motor replacements or major electrical trouble, repairs on a central vacuum system are typically far less than the cost of purchasing and installing a new one.

They’ll use more electricity than the average upright vacuum, but not remarkably more. Most power units plug into a standard 120-volt outlet and don’t have significant power demands. You shouldn’t notice an increase in electricity bills. If you have any specific questions about energy costs, ask your installer as you examine purchase decisions. Larger power units will need more electricity for their suction levels.
