"Had Betts Structural Engineering come and look at the foundation of a house we were in contract on. Josh came out and was professional and informative. He informed us the foundation was failing and explained what needed to be done. He throughly explained everything and told us how we could do it ourselves for much cheaper than a contractor could do it. In the end he saved us from a long and expensive process if we proceeded with the house."

"Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value I took multiple bids on my basement project across basement companies in Columbus. Mid state basement systems had the best and most fair pricing. They did not use any scare tactics and were upfront and honest. They were also the only company to use a laser level and show me the sag difference in my joists that I was experiencing. I hired mid-state basement systems to do crawl space support and repair on my load bearing wall in my basement. MY PROBLEM WAS UNIQUE AS LOAD BEARING WALLS NORMALLY DO NOT NEED TO BE REPAIRED LIKE THIS! At first, it was not level upon completion (BARELY 1/8 INCH OFF) in ONE spot and I let my sales rep Jiovanni know. the team came back out within 48 hrs and adjusted everything and let me take a look at it. They did a fantastic job. The installation crew even wiped down my floors for me after they were done! They were so polite, and respectful and made sure there was no damage to anything as they were moving steel beams to my basement ( my fridge was an object in the way to the basement door ) Do not let competitors make you question the validity of this business. they were fantastic. Rating of sales 5/5 Rating of the installation crew 5/5 Rating of management 5/5 Rating of mid-state as a company : 10/5 I do not believe I would have received this level of responsiveness of any of the competitors. I would choose mid-state basements for any basement project I had. Please use my review to know that mid-state basement systems will do the job the right way and how you need it to be done. In my experience, they offer the most fair pricing."

"We had an attached screened-in porch that was sinking.Acculevel came in and detailed every aspect of the repair project and then followed thru to the most minuet detail. Excellent work and very detail oriented. Friendly and cooperative service team that completed the work. This seemed like what was going to be a complicated job, using augered jacks, concrete removal, and replacing trex floor. ...In a nutshell, they made what seemed hard..very manageableand 100% solved.Excellent service, excellant price......Terry M."

"Came out Christmas Eve for a disaster of a water heater basically exploding. Never met Them before and James came out from Lima to Perrysburg and saved the day and Christmas. Price was fair and less than I thought it would be. So blessed to find an honest expert"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Watch out for contractors quoting masonry work for late fall or winter without detailing cold-weather protection protocols. A quote missing base preparation, drainage plans, or precise mortar specifications signals a professional taking shortcuts. Be cautious of drastically lower estimates, as these indicate skipped permits or inferior materials. Always verify proper state registration, as an unregistered contractor operating in OH is a serious warning sign.

Helpful?

Using deicing salt on exterior surfaces accelerates mortar deterioration and damages masonry work during cold Findlay winters. Directing downspouts toward your foundation or grading soil toward the house traps moisture in clay-heavy soils, increasing hydrostatic pressure. Avoid pressure washing older brick, as this forces water into porous mortar that expands and cracks during freezing temperatures. Always address minor mortar cracks early before they become severe water infiltration points.

Helpful?

Selecting the correct mortar mix for freeze-thaw exposure is critical for masonry work in OH. Mortar must match the hardness of existing brick to prevent spalling. Proper timing also matters; professionals must use cold-weather protection if working below 40 degrees. Additionally, installing proper drainage and compacting the clay soil base prevents shifting and cracking over time. Always ensure proper permits and inspections are completed for structural projects.

Helpful?

When planning masonry work, you will face additional expenses if contractors discover hidden water damage, rotted wood framing, or deteriorated steel lintels behind older brick. Properties in Findlay flood zones require specialized engineering plans. Excavating poor clay subgrade and bringing in proper base material for flatwork adds expenses. Sourcing matching historic brick and implementing cold-weather protection measures during winter months will also increase the final project total.

Helpful?

Homes built between 1900 and 1960 with original brick exteriors are prime candidates for masonry work. Visible mortar joint deterioration, spalling chimney brick, or stair-step cracking in foundation walls indicate a strict need for repairs. Properties in Findlay with a history of basement flooding benefit greatly from below-grade waterproofing. Always check local flood map status and assess your clay soil drainage conditions before starting a project.
