"The guy I met with was great from the company.  The person who came to do the work was not great.  Very nice but didn't show up the day I was told but came the next date.  That didn't really bother me because I didn't need to be home for it.  Just thought the overall work was ok to marginal at best.  The lattice work wasn't very good.  We couldn't afford the person I wanted to go with but know I regret the decision.

"This bathroom remodel was a dream come true!  Brad was prompt, courteous, and such a diligent worker.  The entire project took a little over 3 weeks, and Brad kept us well-informed of each step of the process.  It was extremely helpful that Brad has so many contacts - he was able to get us the best price on granite, marble, glass, and Amish hand-crafted cabinets.  We would highly recommend Brad, he is truly a gifted craftsman."

"Brian and his crew were on time, friendly and professional.  It happened to rain as the project was nearing the end, but Brian and his crew continued to work to make sure that the opening got enclosed and water tight even as they were getting soaked.
The new door was larger than the door being replaced, so they needed to widen the opening.  They took great care to not make a mess on my hardwood floors while they cut the 2x4s and Sheetrock to enlarge the opening.  Whenever a problem came up, Brian always informed me of my options to fix the problem before just proceeding the way he thought it should be done.
The next day he and his painter came over and painted the new door and trim, then they painted two other doors for me.  They went above and beyond what I expected and I am going to use them again soon.

"It went great! Jeff came out and made sure that he divided the duplex directly down the middle and got to work really fast. The job was tough because he had to go through a lot of concrete and blacktop but he got it done. He also installed a gate for each side and they're great. We did have an issue with the way one was settling, nothing that was done on his part, and he came right out and adjusted the gates. We will 100% use them again for any of her fence needs."

"Kenny responded to my online inquiry the same day. He and Jarred showed up for the estimate that next day. They were very professional. I asked for a quote for drywall work and for installing a garbage disposal. I received the quote a day later than Kenny indicated and it was only for drywall work. I needed it done and the price was good so I hired them just for the drywall work.
Kenny was very good about communicating when they would show up and followed up every day after they had finished to let me know what was next. They worked quickly and installed trim that had been removed, caulked, and primed the new drywall. Some screw punches (or places where bumps can be seen) were left in the ceiling. It's an old house and a rental property. The ceilings were so much improved from Kenny and Jarred's work and they minimized their impact on us while working so I didn't mind too much.
The main thing I would recommend they improve on is being better about controlling drywall dust. The first two days were great, but the third day I came home from work to dust all over the house, footprints between the kitchen, bath, and front door (no paper laid on floor), and piles of dust on top of the kitchen and bathroom cabinets. I know drywall dust gets everywhere, but I would have appreciated them putting up plastic in the doorways and paper down on the floor to minimize the mess. I spent that night cleaning the whole house before they arrived again the next day so that I could use the kitchen and bathroom.
I only had one bathroom and they were awesome about putting the shower back together so that we could use the bathroom each day. This was a huge courtesy and I really appreciated it. Also, Kenny came back on the last day and offered to put in my new tub curtain rod (clawfoot tub) for me, which was not part of the original quote. Kenny also was good about asking if everything was done to my satisfaction before asking for payment. I was very satisfied with their work and not overly fussed about the small details given their timeliness, professionalism, and willingness to keep the kitchen and bath functional even though it interfered with their work. I would hire them again. In fact, I asked for a quote for concrete work as they left the job!

Driveway Gates questions, answered by experts

Costs depend on system type, labor rates, and additional features like smart integration or professional monitoring.

Yes, most electric and automatic gates can be opened manually. They are equipped with a manual override or release mechanism that detaches the motor from the gate, allowing it to be moved by hand. This feature is essential during power outages or other emergencies.

To activate the manual override, you will typically need a specific key or tool. In some cases, you may also need a screwdriver to remove a cover to access the release mechanism. The use of a key is a common security measure to prevent unauthorized individuals from manually opening the gate.

Because every model is different, it is highly recommended to consult your gate's user manual to familiarize yourself with the specific procedure before you need to use it. Keep any necessary keys or tools in an accessible location. Be aware that automatic gates can be very heavy, so opening and closing them manually may be difficult.

In North America, electric gates are also subject to the UL 325 Standard for Safety, which includes provisions to allow emergency responders to access the property.

When making this decision, three essential factors come into play. For budget-conscious individuals, swing gates are the more economical choice. Despite the possibility of both gate types having similar dimensions, many types of sliding gates demand a more intricate opening mechanism and additional components, requiring electrical work for motors and signaling remotes, resulting in higher installation costs.

The cost to install a gate varies widely, with a typical range between $1,500 and $7,000. The average cost is around $3,500. However, the final price can be as low as $200 for a simple gate or as high as $12,000 for a large, automated security gate.

Key factors that determine the installation cost include:

  • Gate Material: This is a primary cost factor. Chain-link and vinyl are the most affordable, while wood and PVC are mid-range options. Wrought iron, aluminum, and other metals are the most expensive materials.

  • Automation: Automated gates are significantly more expensive than manual ones because they require motors, sensors, controls, and electrical installation.

  • Size and Type: The dimensions and style of the gate (e.g., swinging vs. sliding) will impact the price.

  • Security Level: Gates with advanced security features will increase the overall cost.

Depending on your needs and wants, investing in a security door can be well worth the cost. Now that you know the pros and cons, you can decide if it’s a purchase that makes sense for your family. If you’re ready to have one installed in your home, look into security door installers in your area.
