"Returned call quickly, came early after calling to make sure it was OK, easy to deal with. Installed two faucet sets and replaced corroded shut-off valves. Explained what was needed and left everything neat and clean. Price was reasonable for the length of time they worked. I would call Jason again and would recommend him to others."

"My husband and I are very appreciative! We live all the way out in Coshocton and he made sure to get all the way to us from Philo the same day that we called! He was very polite and seemed very knowledgeable. We thought the price was very reasonable for him to drive all the way out the same day and fix our clogged drains! He even gave us advice for the future. I would recommend!"

Hello, my name is Matthew Mulholland and I’m the owner operator of First Call Plumbing and Service LLC. With 13 years in the plumbing and excavation trade, it was time to start my own, and have the ability to correct the unpopular aspects of your typical plumbing business. Times are changing and the trades are growing so it’s time plumbing gets a new name. It’s not all about sewage and dirt and laying under a sink. It’s about meeting new customer, building relationships with customers and building a name with integrity, loyalty, and dependability. At my young age of 30 years old. I’ve set out to change the way people view plumbing and look at a plumber. With education and brains first.

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Costs depend on clog severity, pipe condition, equipment required, and labor.

A sewer line should be cleaned at least once every 18 to 22 months. The process takes about 30 minutes or up to 5 hours, depending on the size of the line, how easy it is to access, and how long it’s been since the previous cleaning. If your sewer line hasn’t been cleaned in a couple of years or you don’t even know the last time it’s been cleaned, it’s time to call a pro.

An active cleaning agent and a drain snake is the best way to clean a main sewer line. You can purchase a regular or enzyme drain cleaner or make a DIY drain cleaner with baking soda. Use your chosen solution at least once a month or as needed to keep your sewer line clear.

If methods like hot water or a plunger don’t work on your clogged drain, you can snake your drain to dislodge the plug. This can be a messy process, taking some physical effort and additional time over the other drain-clearing options. You can purchase a drain snake at a hardware store and choose from handheld options or those attached to a drill. Just work slowly, and be ready to call a plumber if you’re unable to reach the clog from your drain or P-trap.

Depending on the home, wastewater either goes into a septic tank and seeps back into the backyard or is sent via sewer system to a local sewage-treatment plant. Septic systems naturally separate different components of the waste so that it can naturally and safely disperse it. They are usually reserved for homes not served by a municipal sewage department (like rural homes). A treatment plant, on the other hand, speeds up that process through screening and purification.
