"Cleaning Genie has been cleaning our home for quite some time. Approximately two years ago one of the two woman cleaning left and that's when the quality of cleaning started to decline. They would dust around objects, dust the perimeter of a table and not the center, obvious things would be missed and most recently they stopped mopping the tile floors. I left notes and talked to them personally and the cleaning would improve for that cleaning only. I finally got tired of feeling like had to micro manage them and left."

For persistent odors, mix 1 cup of baking soda with 4 cups of water and spray it evenly over your rug. Let the mixture dry, and then vacuum the rug thoroughly. You can also use a commercial rug deodorizer, but make sure you match the product to your rug material to avoid damage.

To get urine smell out of a fabric couch, mix equal parts water and white vinegar. Gently dab the solution on the affected spot and let it sit for a few minutes, then blot it dry. For stubborn smells, especially if your pet likes to pee in the same spot, it’s a good idea to hire a professional cleaner versus choosing the DIY route. A pro can use an upholstery steam cleaner to get the dried urine smell out of the fabric.

Looking clean is only half the battle. A professionally cleaned carpet should feel soft and fluffy, i.e., not caked down with dirt or matted from excess cleaning product. To remove pet urine stains and odors from a microfiber couch, first blot the area to absorb as much liquid as possible. Then, generously cover the spot with baking soda and let it sit for a few hours to absorb the odor before vacuuming it up.

For cleaning the stain itself, you can use a commercial urine stain and odor removal spray—be sure to follow the product's instructions.

Alternatively, you can use a DIY solution based on your couch's cleaning code:

  • For 'S' code couches: Lightly spritz the stain with rubbing alcohol and gently scrub with a microfiber cloth.

  • For 'W' or 'S-W' code couches: Use a mixture of one cup of vinegar and one cup of rubbing alcohol, spritzing and scrubbing the area gently.
