"Chris, plumbing technician, was excellent. Came as scheduled, spent about and hour. Thorough job, demonstrated that it was done properly, double-checked draining and connections for me to see without complaint after I asked him to. Neat, clean, friendly. I would give an A+ on service. Price of $274 seems too high, per Angie's list guidelines. Service was basic kitchen sink drain clearage, including use of 35-foot snake. Elsewhere on Angie's site I read: "Cost to snake a drain Manny Vega, president and owner of All Drain Services in Dracut, Massachusetts, says his company charges a flat-rate fee to snake drains. They charge $195 for kitchen sinks and $170 for bathroom sinks and tubs. While price varies depending on the market and the severity of the clog, Young from Legacy Plumbing says the average cost to clear a tub, kitchen or bathroom drain runs $109 to $214. Removing a clog from a laundry drain costs between $151 to $214, and remedying a toilet clog ranges from $109 to $273. All jobs include a $50 service fee.""

"It all started with Amanda in their ads, Ryan Johnston with sales and ended with Edric and Connor installing. It was all done very professionally but relaxed and friendly. No sales pressure, just great information to be able to make the decision. Installation was fast and left no mess! First class company, equipment and employees."
Logan A/C & Heat Services offered value, competitive pricing, top of the line Trane equipment, nice financing options that other companies did not offer. Dan was my sales rep that offered the above services. Bobby was the installer & was professional & did a great job. Install was scheduled on a Monday after I committed on a Friday; so very quick! "Two Archer Plumbing plumbers came to my house to unclog a drain in my basement that used to be a toilet, but was now capped off. The cap had shot off because of a clog underground. The men that came called me when they were on their way, and then unclogged the drain by using one of their snake machines. They were both friendly and good natured guys. I had no problems and was satisfied by the end result. They even checked to make sure the clog was gone by running the machine again, and using a bucket to pour water down into the drain. Great work!

Drain Pipe Installation questions, answered by experts

In some cases, operating a snake can damage your drain and pipes. This depends on the overall condition of your pipes and how gently you operate the auger. For instance, older galvanized pipes covered in zinc are susceptible to scratches when using a drain snake. Additionally, it’s common for newbies to apply too much force when extending the snake, leading to scratches and related damage. You can also crack the porcelain with an electric auger if you’re snaking a toilet drain. If you’re using a manual snake or auger, the risk is minimal.

If methods like hot water or a plunger don’t work on your clogged drain, you can snake your drain to dislodge the plug. This can be a messy process, taking some physical effort and additional time over the other drain-clearing options. You can purchase a drain snake at a hardware store and choose from handheld options or those attached to a drill. Just work slowly, and be ready to call a plumber if you’re unable to reach the clog from your drain or P-trap.

Applying drain cleaner is a common DIY solution to clogged drains, but it can be extremely harmful to your pipes and lead to corrosion and leaks. It is almost always better to try snaking a clog than using a drain cleaner, but the best solution is to hire a professional plumber. They can locate the clog and gauge the severity using a camera system and then decide if using a plumber’s snake, auger, or drain cleaner is the best option to remove the clog and limit damage to your plumbing system.

If you’re not using a septic system, problems with your home’s plumbing won’t cause this—it’s a city problem. A large blockage in the municipal sewage lines may cause those lines to back up into your home. This is extremely unpleasant and can be a serious health risk due to bacteria and other contaminants. If this occurs, call a pro (or your city) immediately.

To unclog the drain pipe, remove the machine's drain hose from the pipe or sink drain, being careful to contain any water in it. Next, use a plunger for sink drains or a plumbing snake for a wall drain. Test the repair by pouring a small amount of water into the pipe before trying it with a laundry load.
