"The overall experience was very pleasant.  Tom and his crew were very professional.  They showed up when expected, even for the estimate.  Covered all the necessary surfaces with drop cloths - even covered the floor in other rooms where they needed to walk to get out or use the utility sink.  They took very good care not to get any paint on the wood-work.  You can not see where the settling cracks were located.   I didn't have to worry about what my young son might overhear from conversations or from the radio being played.  They cleaned up after themselves each day before they left.  Best of all, my walls look great!  "

"We scheduled to have an estimate done for insulating our house due to the drafts in our house. The man doing the estimate was on time and professional. and more importantly was honest and told us our house was insulated adequately. There were a few spots above the windows that were lacking insulation. He told us we could spend money to fill those few spots but it wasn't a big problem. We appreciated his honesty and not looking to make a quick buck.

"Jaime showed up, examined what needed to be done and understood the problem right away.  We discussed the options and then he was ready to go with no need for supervision.  He did an EXCELLENT job.  I had various drywall issues from an old house including wall separation from the ceiling, large ceiling cracks and lifting up of existing drywall.  Plus some caulking needs in one room without disrupting the wallpaper.  Jaime did everything on time and on budget.  Great to work with.  I recommend him highly!

Most handy homeowners can tackle removing texture from unpainted walls. Removing texture from painted walls is a bit trickier. Paint acts as a sealant, so you can’t soften the texture with water. Instead, you’ll have to add a layer of drywall compound known as a skim coat. This process is messy and takes some practice.

For example, the type of ceiling material, type and extent of the damage, and local labor rates all affect your costs. Holes and cracks are less expensive to fix, while structural issues and water damage are pricier problems.

Popcorn ceilings can be relatively easy to keep clean with regular maintenance. Avoid exposing it to smoke if possible—popcorn ceilings tend to collect stains from smoke, including those from cigarettes or cooking. With proper care, you can clean your popcorn ceiling anywhere from every six months to a year—or as needed.

It depends on the type of texture you’re adding but yes, you can often use a roller to texturize a ceiling. The roller needs to be able to hold enough medium to create some relief on the ceiling but not so much that gravity will pull it off before it dries. Using a roller with a nap between ½” and ¾” will allow the roller to hold enough material to do the trick.

If your popcorn ceiling is asbestos-free and you are ready for a new look, painting is an option. As long as there is no flaking or other wear, a new coat of paint might be just the thing to refresh the old ceiling. The best way to paint a popcorn ceiling is to use either a paint sprayer or a thick roller to cover the popcorn texture fully. (Do not forget to dust it off beforehand!)

“Note that if you eventually want to remove the popcorn ceiling, a painted ceiling is a labor-intensive job to remove and will cost more,” says Bob Tschudi. “Once painted, the process of removing the popcorn ceiling requires physical scraping as opposed to a spray-and-scrape approach. It’s very labor-intensive, and thus more costly.”
