"The bath remodel from start to finish was a fine experience. From the original consultation with Jake Demedal to the installation process with the crew of Jake (No. 2) and Nick was professional and respectful. The top notch materials used in the installation produced an impressive transformation to a tired bathroom."

"Chris with Friesen Family Renovations, LLC was very professional and thorough in the work he has completed. He installed a new screen door, replaced my tub stem and faucet, repaired my subfloor in the kitchen and installed brand new LVP flooring to replace old and water damaged flooring. He also mounted a television for me, and did some drywall repairs as well. I would recommend this business to anyone looking for quality and dependable work!"

"We cannot be more pleased. The quality of these products and the difference they have made in our home is beyond belief. My special note to our customer relationship representative, Angela Kermec, our sales representative, Robert Mocker, as well as the excellent Window Depot installation team. Robert initially worked with us on our replacement projects. He was punctual, reliable and works very hard to give the customer exactly what they are looking for. Angela stopped by and oversaw the project the day of installation and answered all of our questions during the installation with members of the installation team. The installation team worked very diligently and completed all of our replacements in about 5 to 6 hours. The installation team works exclusively under the Window Depot USA of Youngstown umbrella, which we were very pleased with. Very nice cleanup after the work was completed. We cannot recommend the team at Window Depot USA of Youngstown enough. We especially liked supporting two excellent companies (Window Depot USA of Youngstown and ProVia) who are headquartered locally in Ohio and in the Youngstown area and Sugarcreek, respectively."

"JR Bath was professional and easy to work with. No pressure to buy extras or anything. Work was done in a day, other than they brought wrong size shower door."

"Bath Fitters end product was fine...but had to comeback for a full second day to redo shower walls not installed quite right. No extra charge but took a day out of my life. I am pleased with the final result"

"My wife and I purchased a century home a few years ago and slowly worked through the process of restoring the property. We saved the largest project for last, our kitchen. Dan’s design was in a class of its own and his price was very reasonable. He was very patient as my wife and I visited his store 5 times over 3 months in order to finalize the design (wood species, stain, counter-tops, etc.). The lead time of the cabinets was consistent with what was committed to. He personally delivered the cabinets and inspected each unit before leaving our house. Even though we installed the cabinets ourselves Dan remained accessible for questions during the installation process. Also, the company he referred us to for counter-tops was A+ as well. The only thing we would do differently is have Dan install the cabinets rather than handle it as a DIY project. If we ever remodel our existing bathroom or move and need a new kitchen, Dan will be the first person we call."

Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel questions, answered by experts

The toilet should rest 10, 12, or 14 inches from the back wall. As for other clearances, 15 inches is the minimum distance from the flange to any side wall or nearby fixture, including the shower, tub, and sink. Modern codes also require at least 24 inches of clear space in front of the toilet.

Yes, you can put wallpaper in a bathroom, but whether it's a good idea depends on several factors. Because bathrooms are high-humidity areas, it's crucial to choose a water-resistant wallpaper, such as one made of vinyl. Proper wall preparation is also critical to ensure the paper adheres well, even after many steamy showers. The wallpaper's placement also affects its longevity; it will hold up better on an accent wall or away from direct water contact, rather than immediately next to a shower. A well-ventilated bathroom will yield the best results.

A walk-in shower without a door is referred to as a barrier-free shower or doorless walk-in shower. This feature makes the shower more accessible for people with disabilities, but it can also be attractive for minimalist designs because of the clean lines. A doorless walk-in shower also means one less surface to clean, but they can have downsides like splashing water and a lack of privacy, so do your research first.

Whether it’s better to add a bathroom to an upstairs or downstairs floor will depend on the home’s layout and your needs. Powder rooms and guest bathrooms are commonly on lower levels, while primary bathrooms are upstairs. When deciding, consider where the bedrooms are located and where your family spends the most time. If you don't have a bathroom in the basement but use the space, adding a bathroom there could be a great option.

Different bathtub materials have various advantages and disadvantages. Cast iron and copper are considered the most durable materials because they are dense and resistant to damage from scratches or dents. However, cast-iron tubs are heavy, expensive, and may not be suitable for upper floors. Copper offers unique benefits but requires regular chemical treatment to prevent a patina from forming, making cast iron a less maintenance-intensive option. Porcelain is a good second choice for durability. For those on a budget, acrylic is a popular option, though it is less durable.
