"I became very sick 2 years ago and finally decovered it was a mold issue in our house. We had a water leak in our basement due to a broken down spouting and mold in the upstairs closets from a water leak in our roof. Bob was our 3rd consultant, who finally gave us the answers we needed to solve our issues. We wanted to do the clean up ourselves so Bob came in as a consultant. Bob was fantastic. He went through the entire house explaining where mold most likely would be found and what to look for in identifying mold., how to increase air circulation to lower humidity levels and recommended we increase insulation in the attic to keep the house cooler. He then explained how to clean the surfaces to remove the mold, He advised what surfaces needed replaced, and when surfaces cannot be feasibly removed, how to seal them. Bob was happy to answer questions i had as we moved through the clean up process. Happy to say my health improved dramatically after the mold was removed. I highly recommend Farsight Management"

"HomeSafe Environmental Solutions responded right away. She fully explained the testing process. She was very thorough and methodical and tested in multiple locations in house and outside. Her written report was meticulous and easy to understand. She was using the latest technology equipment. Before I hired her I researched the scope she said she would use and it is the latest detection equipment. Jackie is very knowledgeable, kind, to the point and knowledgeable in the detection processes. I am extremely pleased and highly recommend her services. She is exactly what a home owner needs to discover if their house has lead and save the health of their family. Prices were very reasonable. Thank you!"

"They were very responsive to our needs and were able to schedule the work quickly.  Their price was comparable to the other estimates we had gotten.  They completed the job in two days and everything looked great afterwards.

Lead Testing and Removal questions, answered by experts

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), hazardous waste is generally classified into four main categories:

1. Characteristic Wastes: These exhibit at least one of four hazardous traits: ignitability (flammable, like gasoline), corrosivity (can rust or decompose materials, like car batteries), reactivity (unstable and can explode, like aerosol cans), or toxicity (harmful when ingested, like lead-based paint).

2. Listed Wastes: These are specific wastes from manufacturing and industrial processes that the EPA has officially designated as hazardous. They include byproducts from processes that use solvents, pesticides, and other chemicals.

3. Universal Wastes: These are commonly generated hazardous items that are subject to streamlined regulations. Examples include batteries, pesticides, mercury-containing equipment (e.g., bulbs), and some lamps.

4. Mixed Wastes: This category includes waste that contains both hazardous and radioactive components, making it subject to regulation by both the EPA and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

How you test for lead in your water depends on the source of your home's water supply. If you have municipal water, your local water system may offer to test the water for free or may connect you to a lab that will perform the testing.

If you have a private well that provides drinking water, you are responsible for testing it for lead. Look for a lab that is accredited by your state's Department of Environmental Protection to perform the test.

Properties should be tested for lead every 2-3 years, especially if they are older, have undergone renovations, or show deterioration of paint or interior finishes.

Hiring a professional for mold and toxic material testing ensures precise identification of harmful substances within a home. Professionals utilize specialized equipment and techniques, providing accurate results that inform proper removal strategies, safeguarding occupant health.

While the EPA provides guidelines for homeowners to perform DIY lead paint removal, it is a risky process and generally not recommended due to serious health risks and strict regulatory requirements. The process requires precise safety precautions, such as wearing a respirator and protective eyeglasses, creating sealed exits, and using a HEPA vacuum for cleanup. To ensure the job is done safely, effectively, and in compliance with regulations, it is highly recommended to hire a professional lead abatement company. Certified professionals have the necessary training, experience, and specialized equipment (like chemical strippers and HEPA vacuums) to handle and dispose of hazardous materials safely.
