"Joe Woods and Just Right Carpentry did a superb job building our new deck. They were responsive, kind, and easy to work with. In addition to building a beautiful deck at a reasonable price, they left everything neat and clean after they left. They went above and beyond and I will certainly use their services again."

"Wonderful experience. Carlos is a fantastic carpenter and craftsman. I drew a sketch for my client and sent it to him. He immediately brought it to life. We had some delays due to the builder not being finished when planned. They were understanding and patient with the install. I am beyond impressed, and my clients are thrilled with the finished built ins. 10 out of 10 superior craftsmanship, and he’s a really nice man also!"

"Anthony called back very quickly. We needed a portable air conditioner installed in our porch with a cutout to outside. He did a great job and was very neat which I love. We are contracting him to do more work for us. He was a great find. We recommend him very highly."

Small jobs welcome

"Everything was done well. Called the Plainview Handyman Franchise at (516) 349-7500 since they are the only one currently listed as licensed in Nassau County, NY. Most contractors are too busy to take care of small repairs and are not available to show up when you need them. This company has experienced individuals who arrive as scheduled and get the work done. My repaired bifold doors do not look brand new, but they work well-for now we can postpone the expense of replacing them. If we decide to replace them, this company's workers will be able to install new doors. They currently charge by time. We expect that we will call them again as needed."

"I hired Tim to fix a banister and put up various shelving and picture frames in my home. He was prompt, easy to work with and did a fantastic job. His prices were very fair and reasonable for the excellent work that he did and I will be sure to hire him in the future for any upcoming projects."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Yes, most services include necessary frame modifications for proper door fitting. Confirm with your provider.

While framing a basement is not as difficult as finishing a basement, it's something you should typically leave to the pros. That’s because if something is installed correctly, it will affect your entire basement. However, you can take care of some of the smaller tasks, like filling holes or putting up some insulation.

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

Yes, you will need a jack for a rim joist replacement. To prevent sagging and facilitate the removal of load-bearing wood, you’ll need to relieve the pressure from this joint before beginning work.

Due to hydraulics and other specialized equipment, a sill plate and rim joist replacement are not typically a DIY project. Hiring a professional structural engineer and experienced contractors is the best approach to replacing rotted sill plates and rim joists.

Using a steel frame may raise the value of your home. Steel is more heat resistant, has better longevity, and doesn’t need any upkeep compared to traditional wood. You can also customize a steel build a little easier than other materials like brick, concrete, and vinyl—which have trouble bending and adapting to renovations.
