Ross Brown, our general contractor, also had one of our corner kitchen cabinets re-worked to remove an old appliance garage so we can see our new granite counter top. Ross then removed the old counter top the second time when our granite counter top was ready, installed the new sink, new faucet, new waste disposal, and new under mount lighting. All work was very professionally done, but what was most striking to us, was the one thing that did not go right. Our dishwasher was no longer emptying the water the next day. This was the first time we used the dish washer after the work was completed. We called Ross, and said he would be right over. It turns out that they forgot to knock out a plug in the new waste disposal, so the waste water from the dish washer could not drain. He dis not charge us for the extra call, and said that Forest City Builders stands behind all the work that they do. This impressed me, and would recommend him to a friend.

Getting a written estimate from construction contractors is nearly impossible in this area - most are just not able to organize themselves and their worksheet. Ben, however, provided a clear, neat cost list for us compared to two other contractors. We also had regular communication using email or text messaging, which made it convenient in discussing job variations during the run of play. he also installed sliding wooden drawers in our kitchen cabinets, which were 1992 vintage but still in good shape. The extra space and innovative design he used is a welcome change allowing us to remove clutter from the countertops to stow utensils, plates and pans more conveniently. We are extremely happy with the work Ben did, and would use him again. They do excellent work, but their scheduling, callback and calendar is variable, perhaps due to construction delays or other booking preferences they control. I have had 3 large roofing projects done by them, they are expensive and I probably should have gotten more quotes from other companies. My last project replaced a large slate roof over two separate seasons (one side, then the other) and the total came to about $40K. Two skylights were added late in the contract, and I wound up doing a good amount work myself (interior finish). An unused chimney was contracted to be topped off in metal, but they forgot and I did not know this until a huge rainstorm brought water down the chimney, doing about $700 in interior wall damage, which they disavowed any responsibility for, nor fixed. They did later add the metal cap, begrudgingly. The slate job required adding 6 rows of red slate in the middle of a gray field pattern to match the previous design. Oddly, they brought, trimmed and stacked all the reds on the roof, only installed two rows, then packed them all out, probably to another job. I actually do recommend Consumer Construction to anyone who knows how to write a dense, thorough contract, then get the final job inspected and make your last payment contingent on getting everything you ordered, when you expected it to be done. Assigning penalties to dates missed would be wise with this company, but they probably would not sign a contract with these stipulations against them. Then again, if you don't have a tight time schedule, this company would be a reasonable recommendation.
