I had a GREAT experience with Corey (who did the actual work) as well as everybody who worked to schedule his visit. I appreciated being given the option to hold off 'til Monday and avoid a weekend upcharge. Service was exactly as quoted and is just the going rate. They stayed in contact through the whole process. I also learned a thing or two from Corey (avoid antimicrobial soaps) and have re-committed to minimizing garbage-disposal usage. I pre-cleaned the mess in my basement and Corey left it just as he found it.

Please be very aware of what you are paying for with this company. They claim that they are emergency plumbers, so you will be paying an extreme amount of money for their "emergency service". They charge by the whole hour, so even a half hour will be charged a whole hour. I was unaware of this when I hired them, and when I got my labor bill, I was shocked to see that 1 1/2 hour cost me $700 in just labor alone! While it was for two people, this is simply outrageous! They also took all my copper pipes (and I had some large 3" ones) without asking me if I wanted to keep them, and by the time I realized it, they were gone.

I had a toilet overflow in the basement and suspected a clog. I called RR they were able to get there 4 hours after I called. Called at 10:45, they arrived from another job at 3 pm. John quickly diagnosed the problem and went to work. He augured the sewer line out to the street, taking his time and doing a thorough job for probably 1/2 hour to 45 minutes. Nothing really to discuss, he explained the issue , what cause the clog, and advised me how to avoid in the future (older house, older pipes, more prone to clogs). I got what I was looking for, efficient, no nonsense, john knew what he was doing with total certainty and got about his job quickly. When he was done he reported his findings, made his recommendations, and was off. I like tradespeople like that. Friendly, but all business , and professional. So the only thing is that I think the price is high. The cost of a service call, if no work was done, was 175. To me that's high, and I am from CT. Must service calls are 100 or less. I think it should have cost me about 200 bucks , tops. But it's not fun work, and you want it taken care of, and I am new to the area, so I went directly to them. In the future I may find a private plumber who will do the same for less. I may be off base but that's my sense.

Craig had a worker at the house within a couple of hours and had an excavator scheduled for the next morning.  The work was done carefully, the exterior line was installed and I had a working sewer on day two...which I thought remarkably fast.  Craig also dealt appropriately with the insurance company and I was very pleased with the guidance given by him and by the people who work for him.  As I have never had such extensive sewer work needed before, I have no idea about the cost, but the efficiency and thoughtful care given to me by both the owner (Craig) and the men who work for him...lead me to believe that the cost was fair and necessary.  In my 135 year old house....this was work that obviously waiting for its turn and I am glad that Craig and his team were there to complete it.

They first cleared the blockage in the sewer line. Then next, they put a camera in the line showing what the problem was. Making the decision to pay extra for the camera was the right choice for sure. It showed that the drain was not straight and that the joints had broken in the process of settling so there was not a smooth flow from one section to the next. I would not have known that without the camera. I did think the extra charge was bit much but am really glad I spent the extra money for it.

The bathroom sink drain was clogged.  my husband called this company.  They were there when expected and performed the service we needed.  They are outrageously expensive.

This is the second call in 10 days.  I went on their web site, got a coupon and scheduled my appointment online.  After waiting 2 hours and then another hour -- I called and was told that no one monitors the email requests on the weekend.  Two unprofessional people came out later  (I am trying to be nice here) and decided that yes, the toilet did need to be augered and it would be $195.95 plus tax.  They proceeded to tell me my problem was that I used double ply toilet paper and the glue from the toilet paper was clogging the toilet and that my toilet was junk.  Well, the toilet is old but something must have changed for it to not be flushing.  This time they augered clear to the main line.  They did not even want to guarantee it for 10 days but I argued with them.  They gave me names of new toilets to buy and prices for installation.  I seriously wanted to burn sage to get all the negative energy out of the house when they left.
Would I use them again?  They might not come to my place after reading this review, but the issue is that not all plumbers can auger a main line, so with limited people offering that service, we can be stuck -- literally.
Response from Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup
"While I do appreciate the review, there are some key facts missing. The first is we did charge the normal $195.95 for the call. What you did mention was the fact that we did clean your sink in the downstairs bathroom for a discounted price of $25.00 from our regular $75. This is the 3rd time you have used our service and do appreciate it. I am a new owner at this location and do pride myself of good service. If there was/is an issue, please call our office next time. Either myself or my wife Sara would be happy to help. As for the toilet being junk, what was explained was that toilets over time get clogged in there jets from the hard water in our area. What this does is slow the flow down into the bowl from the tank, which results in a poor flush. As for the 2-ply toilet paper, it has a better chance of getting hung up due to a poor flush. I do thank you for your review and I do not have harsh feelings. Being a business owner means you have to have tough skin some times."

Our toilet and tub were draining very slowly in the upstairs bath, so we
called our plumber who said it sounded like "the main line" and the
best bet would be to call Roto Rooter and have them auger the main
line.  We asked if they installed garbage disposals too and they said
they could do it on the same trip.
So they immediately said it
was not the main line because the sink was draining okay.  Later, we
learned the sink was on a different line.  So it was over $300 to auger
the shower (hair and soap)and $250 to install a garbage disposal.  FLIPPING outrageous!
The guy was not pleasant to deal with and I will just leave it at that.  I had to call them back on 7/28 because the shower and toilet were still not draining well again. :o(

They came at a time I set.  They were actually a little early.  They were professional and friendly.  The work was completed in less than 20 minutes.  They had all the proper equipment and the system has been working fine since their visit.

Response was prompt, courteous, professional. The price seemed very high, but I was aware that this would probably be the case, and I did not have time to shop around. Because of my need for peace of mind regarding state of plumbing (I live in another part of the country and can't monitor matters at the Burlington house frequently), I was willing to pay what seemed to be too much. The Roto-Rooter workmen did a free inspection/evaluation of all the drains in the house. There was no hard sell for additional work (which I will eventually have to have done), which I appreciated. Next time I might shop around for a less expensive plumber, but this does not reflect any dissatisfaction on my part other than the price.

It did not go well. Upon opening the lid, the Roto-Rooter guy reported that the septic tank needed to be pumped because it was full. Septic tanks are ALWAYS full. He then proceeded to tell us that after the tank was pumped, he would have to "Jet" the main drain from the tank back to the toilet. A pumping service was called and he supposedly left, but not before jetting the drain which he had just said would have to wait until after the pump-out. He left a bill for $435. After the tank was pumped, we found that the drain was still plugged. This leaves me with the distinct impression that the drain was never jetted clean. (If it was, why was it still plugged?) After a rather strong phone call, the original guy came back out and jetted the drain, which started working properly again.

"Sorry for your past issues with this location. It is currently under new ownership. If you ever have a problem in the future, I would like to be able to help and provide a free estimate as well as a discount towards your next service. Thanks, Craige Ohlstein Roto Rooter Plumbing"
