"Rich was great and very professional. The blueprints were promptly delivered and he did a great job working with the town regarding some requested changes. If I need an architect in the future, it will be Rich. In fact, we did recommend him to our son regarding his building project, and he is just as pleased. Rich is based in Syracuse and we are in Rochester. He came to our home, so don t let a little distance concern you."

"The Hometown crew was top notch - respectful, professional and thorough. The site lead would touch base making sure it was to our satisfaction throughout project. We had a tree removed , stump removed and surrounding area graded and prepped . The area looks perfect and would definitely contract Hometown again for another project. Thank you again!!"

Architects questions, answered by experts

The various types of architects can be broken down into eight distinct categories, but there can be specific specialties within each of them. Most homeowners will work with a residential, restoration, green, interior, landscape, or retrofit architect for projects. There are also lighting and commercial architects whose work is geared more toward large spaces and businesses.

In the United States, architects must be licensed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia before being allowed to practice or seek business. Licensing requirements vary state-to-state, but overall the architect must be educated, attain a certain level of experience, submit to and pass an examination, and register as an architect. Find out if your architect is licensed using Angi’s contractor licensing search tool.

Yes, you can finance cottage construction through several options. Construction loans provide funds in stages as work progresses, while home equity loans or lines of credit are available if you have existing property. Some lenders offer a combined construction and permanent mortgage. Always review loan terms and payment milestones before committing.

You'll find Arts and Crafts homes across the country in varying styles. On the East Coast, bungalows and Tudor Revivals fill the Boston area through New Jersey. In the West, Mission-style homes incorporate terracotta shingles, white stucco siding, and rounded archways.

The best height for a pizza oven is one that allows the user to easily see what’s going on inside and comfortably place pies without having to crouch over. In general, that means the opening should be between 36 and 48 inches off the ground. By contrast, the height of the dome is totally up to your preference, because different heights create different results. Shorter domes are better for creating Neapolitan-style pies, whereas taller domes are ideal for NY-style recipes.
