"As a former home improvement contractor with "15" years of experience, I always told my customers the best way to choose a contractor was by "word of mouth".  Fast forward to the current time-frame, and I have become a fan of Angie's List, since essentially it is a storehouse of customers who have had experiences with the various contractors available.  Since I have the skills necessary to pretty much solve all my own construction problems, I am reluctant to "pay" someone else to handle them.  However, I also realize that sometimes time and circumstance interfere with timely completion of various projects.  Mike Sheehan, the owner of MFS Masonry, answered my query in short order, and visited my home within a mutually convenient time period.  Affable, witty, friendly, and very knowledgeable, Mike surveyed the area, took some quick but accurate measurements, and he wrote me a quote before he left.  I telephoned him at least two more times over the next several days with some other questions, and he answered directly and honestly.  After some brief delays due to the weather, Mike's crew arrived on Thursday, May 8, and raised the old pavers, excavated the underlayment, removed the railroad ties, and demolished the front steps, after verbally insuring  that we had other access to the house. The "4" guys worked a total of "12" hours each, efficiently moving materials without disturbing/damaging the surrounding environs.  During this time Mike was not present onsite for the whole time period, but rather, trusting his able-bodied workers, informed my wife that he would be visiting with other potential customers and provided her with his cell-phone number in case there were any issues.  He returned frequently during the day, both inspecting the site, and conferring with my wife to see once again if there were any concerns.  Friday, May 9 was a carbon-copy of Thursday, but this time the installation of the new pavers was completed, and with adequate pitch to insure proper drainage into an edge-drain installed between the pool deck and the actual patio.  "One" man constructed the entire front steps on his own, insuring that it was both level and square....believe me, I checked!  Rainfall interrupted the last step of the process which was to sweep polymeric sand to lock the patio pavers in place, but Mike's guys returned on Monday, May 12 to complete the job!  Their workmanship is superior, their attitude was professional, friendly and helpful, and the job was completed in a record "2" days, if you discount the weather delay.  The true test of course, is how will wifey like it...because as the saying goes..."Happy Wife, Happy Life!"  Wifey loves it!  Done....

"Anton promptly responded to my Angie's List message, and scheduled an appointment to see what installing the 2 exhaust fans would entail. He quickly assessed that the exhaust ducts would be routed through the attic and the vents would have to penetrate the roof. He had concerns because it was winter and we were experiencing very bad weather. Anton did not want to risk penetrating the roof and advised the job be done in the Spring. I really appreciated his concern. Once Spring arrived, I called him back to do the job. In addition, I asked that he install 2 exterior doors, their frames, and their locks. The exhaust fan install went smoothly. They were installed and all works as expected. Replacing the doors was a bit more involved. Since I own a home that's almost 100 years old, I wasn't surprised that he found a problem once he removed one of the frames. This area is exposed to the elements, and the frame that was removed was really rotted. Anton recommended removal of all the rotted wood, and reconstructing that area to better support the new door, and it would help prevent water from causing more damage. It cost a little more, but I'd rather spend a bit more for work that's done properly, than take a short cut and ignore a problem that can cause more damage in the long run, so I agreed. They did a wonderful job rebuilding the area under the sill. Once that was completed, the door went it and looks great. The second door by my porch had less rot, but still required some reconstruction. Anton ensured the doors worked flawlessly. He also ensured that the old interior door molding was not damaged in the process and that it was reinstalled properly. They worked very hard to get the work done just right. I like that Anton explains everything, and that he is so detailed. I'll definitely call him for my next project."

"Took 3 visits but was well worth the time, attention and patience to get the job done right. First day was inspection and quote for repairs/materials. Work started that day to patch the cement crown that was cracked and channeling water down one side of the chimney eroding bricks. A bowed metal plate on the chimney to shed water between the two flue caps was flattened and sealed with cement so it did not show from the ground and so flies would stop entering into the house thru one of the flues. Crumbling mortar was replaced between bricks and bricks were waterproofed. The chimney was measured and the cap to cover the entire chimney was ordered. The 2nd visit got rained out. The 3rd visit was a good weather day and the cap was assembled, installed and cemented in place. It is amazing how strong the animal guard around the 4 sides of the chimney is. The crew at all times was friendly, courteous & very competent being careful to do the entire project as if it was their home."
