"C&J did an incredible job completely gutting and remodeling our 1895 farmhouse. This was a huge 8-month job with the variety of complications and required changes an old house can throw at you; throughout the process Craig and Jerry offered excellent design suggestions, collaborated very well with our architects, worked diligently to stay on budget, and each day demonstrated craftsmanship and professionalism of the highest level. C&J’s team of subcontractors and designers are excellent too. These people are the best the building trade has to offer: conscientious, skilled, creative, and a pleasure to work with. Hoping to have them back soon to remodel the guest cottage and garage! See Photos here: [*** Link removed ***]"

"Brian from All Trades Plumbing and Construction installed a new hot water heater for us. Brian arrived on time, was courteous, did an outstanding professional job and left the basement area spotless when he was finished. I would highly recommend All Trades Plumbing and Construction."

"I had a Klimaire 36,000 BTU Split-type Heater/Air Conditioner installed by Jake Prevost and an electrician. They did an awesome job. Both were very professional and knowledgeable. The installation also included electrical wiring from the fuse box to the unit, along with electric wire guard covers. The unit worked perfectly by the time they were done. I was also very surprised that they cleaned up the entire area and removed all of the trash and large boxes that came with the inside and outside unit. Highly recommended!"

"Excellent work. As a landlord, I needed to replace a furnace last year. Will, at A-1 Heating & Cooling came and gave me great advice. I replaced the gas/radiator furnace, furnace was great, no issues at all. This spring, I decided to replace my furnace as well since it was 30 yrs old. Job was finished within 6 hrs, radiators bled, old furnace removed, another great job. Cant say enough about this company…..the owner actually answers the phone!"

"What started as a deck rebuild turned into a three season room addition. Matt and his crew were easy to work with, offered some great suggestions to us, and the finished room is more than we hoped for! We loved his suggestion of putting pine on the vaulted ceiling, and the finish work at the bottom on the outside looks great. Matt took care to match our 20 year old siding, and finish the windows and doors to exactly match the others on the house."

"Once again great people serviced my house, Kyle G. and Paul P. Installed furnace and air conditioning units. Answered all my questions, showed us how to run the equipment, cleaned up afterwards. Even moved old air conditioning pad to my backyard. Very trustworthy, honest, and did great work. Thanks so much!"

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

Regular meetings, reviewing drafts, and providing input on materials help align the project with your vision.

A split-level home is one that has several staggered floors connected by short staircases, while a split floor plan separates the primary bedroom from the rest of the bedrooms. Split floor plans are most often found in single-story homes, while split-level homes are always at least two stories.

By providing precise guidelines that reduce errors and facilitate smooth execution.

Universal design costs can be minimal when you add them during construction; however, adding universal design principles to existing homes can sometimes increase renovation costs. For example, a mid-grade bathroom remodel is estimated to cost around $30,000, while a standard universal design remodel can cost closer to $40,000. Adding accessible design components can include widening hallways ($500 to $2,000), curbless showers ($2,000 to $8,000), and widening doors ($400 to $800). Keep in mind that these increased costs can lead to higher resale values because universal homes may appeal to a wider variety of buyers.

When planning a general remodeling project, it's important to define the scope of work, understand your goals, and set a clear, detailed budget. You should also assess the current structure and consult with professionals like architects or contractors. Create a realistic timeline for each phase, obtain any necessary permits, and build in contingency plans for potential delays or unforeseen issues. Regular communication with all involved parties is crucial to streamline the process.
