"I had a whole-house generator installed by an electrical contractor. It was wired incorrectly. I made an appointment with Mr. Electric of Queensbury, NY. They diagnosed the issue, ordered the parts, and installed them in a reasonable time. This was not their problem, but they treated it like it was. I am very impressed with their professionalism. Their employee Brian treated our home like it was his. When he had to enter our home, he put covers on his boots so he wouldn't track mud and snow into our home. He gave us an ETA for when he would come to do the work and explained the billing. If I need any electrical work done in the future, it will be done by Mr. Electric of Queensbury, NY."

"Mr. Donohue is very knowledgeable and has excellent experience in the lightning protection area. He responds quickly and has a very professional team of workers. He quoted the job using google earth information. When he visited the site he reduced his price by over 50%. I highly recommend him and I will use his company again."

"Used this company previously and again it was a pleasure from beginning to end. I would give him 10 Stars if I could. Referred William to a close friend of mine and she was just as pleased. We both sleep better during our bad Florida thunderstorms. A friend of mine lost their home due to lightning. They got out just in time couldn’t save anything but their lives barely. I urge all to install lightning rods."

"Just too expensive for what you get. Feels like a big company nickel and dime move. I get having a trip charge. Which was $109. But then to have the tech who was great btw (not his fault), but was tentative about fixing the problem because of creating more damage. Another $160 for a simple diagnostic charge, again without fixing the problem. I already knew the diagnosis. So he basically did a Band-Aid fix (greased the Knob) and still charged me over $280+ for what equated to be 10 minutes of work. It was ridiculously high for the service provided. Next time I?m going to an independent, local guy."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Watch for quotes that are significantly lower than others, omit permit or inspection fees, or fail to address Ticonderoga’s weather and delivery challenges. Be wary of professionals who don’t discuss protection against Adirondack winters, rush to start without a clear plan, or lack references from similar North Country projects. Insist on detailed proposals that reflect the unique needs of Ticonderoga homes.

Helpful?

For a smooth electrical project in Ticonderoga, start by confirming all permits are in place and inspections are scheduled early. Plan major work between late spring and early fall to avoid delays from Adirondack winters and frozen ground. Coordinate with local utility providers for service upgrades, account for potential rural delivery delays, and communicate with your contractor about weather-related scheduling and material storage needs unique to the area.

Helpful?

The longevity of electrical work in Ticonderoga depends on selecting weather-resistant materials that handle wide temperature swings and high humidity from nearby lakes. For older homes, careful integration with existing wiring is crucial, while rural properties often require upgraded panels and longer cable runs. Planning for power surges and voltage fluctuations, which are common in the Adirondack region, also ensures lasting and reliable performance.

Helpful?

Electrical systems in Ticonderoga benefit from annual outdoor inspections before winter, spring checks for ice or water damage, and quarterly testing of GFCI outlets, especially near lakes or damp areas. Inspect underground wiring for frost heave, monitor for corrosion from road salt, and test surge protectors due to frequent lightning. Seasonal homes require pre-winter shutdowns and spring startups, with attention to rodent and moisture risks.

Helpful?

In Ticonderoga, look for corrosion on outdoor outlets, rust or moisture inside electrical panels, and cracked or sun-faded exterior wiring—these are common due to local climate conditions. Outdated panels or knob-and-tube wiring in homes built before the 1950s are strong indicators for updates. Rodent damage, moisture intrusion, or frequent breaker trips also signal it’s time for a professional assessment.
