"We hired Valleyview Masonry to replace 42 feet of a basement wall. We had to have them come back and fix the cracks between the blocks, they had to fix the French drain because they had it blocked off with concrete. Now after paying them $14,000 we are having problems with the drainage they put in! We have spoke to Gideon numerous times about this issue and they still have not come to fix it and not even a call back! I would not refer them to anybody! They have terrible customer service!!!!!!"

It’s possible to rent the equipment necessary to do your own mudjacking, but we don’t recommend it. Mudjacking involves pumping a precise amount of cementitious slurry under your slab to lift it back into place and keep it there. Yes, expanding foam (also known as polyurethane foam) can lift concrete. This approach, called polyjacking, involves injecting the foam rather than concrete slurry to fill voids and raise the concrete slab back into place. It’s often faster and requires smaller drill holes than traditional mudjacking, though it may come at a higher cost. Some contractors also prefer polyjacking over mudjacking for more damaged and delicate slabs.

Mudjacking is usually reserved for light-duty slabs, like patios, driveways, and sidewalks. However, it can be an effective way to lift garage slabs and concrete around the perimeter of the home, which could harm your foundation if it’s not done properly. The risk of damage is why having a professional mudjacking company carry out the work is important. This type of slab or foundation repair is relatively inexpensive, especially if you consider that a DIY job requires that you pay to rent the necessary equipment.

Mudjacking can take 24 to 72 hours to cure enough to resume normal use. Because the slurry mixture contains cement, it needs to fully harden to ensure that added weight won’t shift the concrete slab before it has completely set. Your concrete contractor will be able to tell you when you’re free to use your concrete surfaces again after mudjacking.

It’s best not to perform mudjacking in the winter unless the ground temperature remains above freezing. Freezing temperatures can cause the slurry to harden too quickly, compromising its strength and longevity. Concrete is also more susceptible to cracking and splitting in cold temperatures, so there’s a higher risk of damaging the slab during the drilling and lifting process in winter.
