"Anton, the owner of European Craftsman and Remodeling, has done a lot of work for us over the past few years. He has painted and fixed the entire exterior of our home, repaired our roof, built a beautiful front patio with stonework, and also re-finished our cedar outdoor deck. This man is an absolute top-rate craftsman of the highest order. Every single job that he has done for us has been done with great care, detail, and amazing quality. All of this done with complete trust, no price increases unless there is an impending issue that comes up, and extreme reliability. We have other work that we need done, and there is absolutely nobody else that I will ever call in the Hudson Valley - Anton is our man! We have had nightmare issues in the past finding good carpenters and contractors - they are usually not reliable, do garbage or incorrect work, overcharge, etc so when we found Anton, we were amazed and are now thrilled. If you need something taken care of in your home or want to upgrade some appearance, painting, stonework, repair, decks, I give my highest recommendation to call Anton. I would rate his entire work for us at a 10/10 and A++ rating, no joke. I am simply a very happy customer. Frank"

"I would wager it's pretty rare that your relationship with a contractor is so smooth, so collaborative and so easy that they become a legitimate friend... but that's what happened with Dave Nessel and me. He came recommended by our architect, and we hired Dave to build our custom 3br, 3ba modern home in the woods of Woodstock, NY. He was head and shoulders above the other contractors we interviewed in terms of thoroughness, communication, availability and ease of collaboration. The home he built was within 5% of our agreed-upon budget (and that 5% wasn't even his fault — it was unknowable site complications) and we did it 3-months faster than anyone else quoted us was possible. Dave navigated massive supply chain issues without a single delay to the project through his organization and foresight. But more importantly, our home is beautiful and Dave was an absolute pleasure to work with. I simply cannot sing his praises any higher (and have recommended him to 3 different friends since)"

"Work performed was excellent and the experience working with this contractor was better then any prior experience throughout the many construction projects I have been involved with. Refreshing to work with a tradesman who is talented, honest, hard working, reliable, communicates well and is resourceful. Made a great suggestion adding crown molding that dramatically improved the apartment. They have a good eye for color and style. Peace of mind knowing that I did not have to babysit, micromanage, argue or play games. They handled a very difficult project with numerous challenges in a professional and efficient manner. Extremely satisfied and highly recommend Italian Painting Co. This company is truly deserving of the service award they received."

"Your Way Contractors far exceed an "A"rating. If you need work done in your home, this is the contractor you need to hire. Gene, his son Ryan and their team are experts in their field and a group of true, seasoned professionals. What a pleasant experience this unpleasant remodel was. We have a very old house where many surprises were uncovered. Nothing was a challenge for Your Way, Gene had only solutions to rebuild, repair and renew. Gene and Ryan are also very creative with design ideas and the built-ins they proposed for our TV and display shelves are incredible. Ryan is a highly skilled carpenter and was an absolute pleasure to have at our house working dilligently each day. We will definately hire Your Way Contractors again in the future for any work we need done, and will definately recomend them to anyone we know in need of a contractor."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Converting a carport into a garage can vary in difficulty depending on its configuration, the condition of the foundation or slab, and its location relative to the house. The process has a lot in common with a home addition, but you can often skip non-essential finishes like fine flooring, trim work, or even drywall and HVAC. The conversion requires experience with drywall, insulation, and other building materials to ensure it’s done safely and correctly. While it might be possible for a DIYer with the proper tools and skills to do the work, it is a complicated and potentially dangerous job. If you’re new to basic construction, it's best to leave this project to the professionals.

Metal stud framing parts include the studs themselves, upper and lower tracks that act as top and bottom wall plates, various angle fasteners and clips, screws for fastening pieces togeher, metal straps, c-channel supports, and thicker steel supporting structures. Roof framing metal components include pre-fabricated trusses, heavy-gauge stud pieces, and various plates and fasteners.

Accurate measurements, sturdy materials, and seamless integration with other structures.

The cost to convert a carport into a garage averages about $22,000, ranging from about $15,000 and $55,000. Additional cost factors to consider include size, time of year, and how much of the carport you can reuse. Other cost factors include the kinds and amounts of materials used, such as:

  • Add insulation: $1 per square foot

  • Add drywall: $1–$3 per square foot

  • Add window: $450–$2,000 per window

  • Add outlets: $75–$500

  • Add garage door: $250–$11,200

  • Enclose framing: $5–$13 per square foot

  • Replace roofing: $1,000–$2,000

It’s best to use two screws to secure deck boards into every joist. Securing the boards to every joist makes the deck more structurally sound, while using two screws on the outer sides of the boards can help prevent warping and cupping.
