"Ossie and his team did a fantastic job. He added a transfer switch to my main electrical box for a generator hook up. Ossie was very professional, responded in a timely fashion and gave me a fair price. I would highly recommend Ossie Electric for any projects you have."

"Excellent work as always - this is our third time using Antonio and they always do a great job and clean up! We had a new panel installed with a switch for a new generator that I bought. They also ran a new circuit for my microwave which used to trip the breaker all the time. THANK YOU!"

"Joe Rinaldi and his team are top notch electricians and I highly recommend them for any residential service. I requested the services of AM/PM Electric on two occasions; One service request was for a non working outlet in the master bathroom and the second request was to install three new electrical lines in the garage of my home. Joe and his team did extraordinary work on both jobs. My dedicated 120V and 240V lines in the garage were professionally installed and routed through conduit. The end result was a very clean run with everything installed by code. There was a small mishap where the circuit breaker I requested was out of stock however Joe personally corrected the problem as soon as he could. In my experience, AM/PM is one of the best electrical contractors in Westchester and I highly recommend their service. My interactions with Joe proves to me that he truly cares for his customers and the quality of his work. He worked to make sure that I was fully satisfied. I can't ask for a better contractor in Westchester County, NY. This is an honest review by a new homeowner in Cortlandt Manor, NY."

"They had to take the light apart. They are also very fairly priced. They even have emergency overnight service. If they get hung up on another job, and they're gonna be a little late, they call.

They do a great job and are fairly priced. Some people are way higher priced than them in this area. They did my whole house wiring when we rebuilt it. They know my house and they do a good job. They have been consistent over time."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

With proper maintenance, a whole-house generator can last between 20 and 40 years. The specific lifespan depends on how often and for how long the generator is used, and some models may have their life expectancy rated in hours of operation. To maximize its lifespan, expect to spend around $150 to $300 per year for annual maintenance checks from a qualified technician. During these checks, a technician will inspect the engine filter, starting mechanism, fuel, lubrication, and coolant levels. Consulting your installer and choosing a low-impact fuel like natural gas or diesel can also help ensure your generator lasts as long as possible.

If your home already has a grinder pump and you’re still noticing issues (like frequently clogged toilets and sinks), it could be time to upgrade your grinder pump. Start by checking your existing horsepower. If there are four or fewer people living in your home, using a 1/2-horsepower grinder pump should be sufficient. Larger households should consider investing in a 1-horsepower grinder pump to maximize wastewater removal efforts.

Yes. You can connect your home back-up battery to a generator with its designated charger. Be sure that the output of the generator matches the input requirements for the battery for best results.

No, you should never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet in your house. This practice is extremely dangerous, often illegal, and can cause "back-feeding," where power from the generator flows back into utility lines, creating a life-threatening hazard for utility workers. It can also damage your home's electrical system, including appliances like pumps and HVAC fans. If the main power is restored while the generator is connected, it can destroy the generator and cause an electrical fire. To safely connect a generator, you must use a professionally installed transfer switch or an interlocking kit, which prevents back-feeding by disconnecting your home from the utility grid before the generator provides power.

Most homeowners won't be able to claim a home generator as a tax write-off. However, a whole-house generator may be tax-deductible in certain situations depending on its purpose. For instance, if it's needed to power essential medical equipment, it may qualify as a medical expense deduction. Also, in some cases, businesses can deduct a generator as a business expense if it supports operations. Always consult a tax professional to determine eligibility based on your specific circumstances and the applicable IRS regulations.
