"I wouldn’t get my tree service done by anyone else! Timberline was extremely responsive, helpful and efficient. I spoke with Chris on the phone about having someone come look at my trees and Benjamin was at my home later that day. "Excellent. the back to back Nor'easters pummeled Westchester and all the tree services were backed up....Bill Demarest's team got to us quickly, assessed the risks of our partially downed tree and planned the work accordingly. they did a great job, neat, professional, took a lot of care in protecting the surrounding areas as they took down a very big sugar maple and removed a huge branch from that tree that fell in my side yard. They are great!"

"As a retired person, Responsiveness, quality of work, and especially fair pricing are extremely important to me. Jaime assured me at our first meeting that I would be happy upon completion and I am. A small tree was taken down and removed, depressions in the lawn were filled and seeded, and a fifty foot section of an old stone wall was totally cleared of old Grape vines, leaves and pricker bushes. Opt for a barefoot tree. Pros harvest barefoot trees when they’re dormant (leafless). They shake the dirt from the root ball and pack it in moist material. 

These trees can cost half as much as the trees at your local nursery, and you can buy them online—so there’s a much wider selection. Just make sure you keep your barefoot tree cool until you’re ready to plant it.

A chainsaw is the best tool to cut down a tree, but you may also use a handsaw or ax. You may also want to use a lopper or pole saw to remove limbs before cutting down the tree. Wear chainsaw chaps and protective gear, including eyewear and earplugs if you use a chainsaw. Again, if you’re unsure about how to use this tool, this project may be one to skip.

Unfortunately, most of the time you’re out of luck if a neighbor’s tree blocks your view. You don’t have a right to a view, so if you have a tree that’s near the property line but on your neighbor’s property, you can’t cut it to be able to take in a majestic mountain or a beautiful sunrise. In some communities, however, there are ordinances protecting scenic views. Checking into your local laws can help you determine your rights in this situation.

If it’s your property, then you can plant a tree near power lines, but it’s not the best idea. Any vegetation that grows within 10 feet or so of power lines will fall under the responsibility of the utility company, and they may trim or remove it as necessary. If you do move forward with your plan, try to choose a smaller ornamental tree, plant it as far away from the power lines as you can, and keep it trimmed to avoid future problems.

Completely topping a plum tree is a risky business. Cut too much, and you’ll kill your tree. That said, you do need to trim the top of your tree to encourage bushy growth, maintain your tree’s vase shape, and limit size. 

A plum tree's central leader (or trunk) should never extend more than 3 feet above the highest branch. When you first plant your tree, cut the central leader so it’s 2 to 3 feet tall. As it grows, cut it back 12 to 20 inches until it reaches its desired height. Never prune more than one-third of the new growth.
