"I hired Tom for a renovation. Even though the job was small, I felt Tom gave me the attention he would have given his larger jobs. He is extremely punctual and professional and helped obtaining the building permit from the Town of Eastchester. I would highly recommend Tom to any of my family or close friends that need the services of an architect."

"Mark Michaels is a true professional and detail orientated architect. You will welcome his friendly warm kind personality. He will be sure to help bring your vision to light through his drawings. We are happy with his attention to detail and the outcome of our two story extension and bath. This is our second time working with Mark and are currently adding on a bedroom extension. Our experience and outcome have been wonderful.

"Due to a storm we had a tree demolish our family room causing us to scramble to find an architect. It took 3 months to find one we felt we could work with. It was finally through Service Magic that we found Paul Dennis. We did not have a clue about working with an architect. He's been a wonderful teacher & our greatest support. Paul Dennis is extremely honest, experienced, creative, & his price is fair. We are still in the process & it's both joyful & exciting to work with him. Also, Service Magic was very quick & helpful in responding to our needs & continues to do so. We're happy we found them too."

"There are not enough great things I can say about this contracting company!! Both Valentino & Ben are extremely knowledgable about their craft. They have been responsive to our needs & have made themselves available to answer any questions we had both along the way & even when we had concluded the projects. Their workers are amazing, polite, friendly & clean. Having been under renovation for a year, I can honestly say that I miss them in my home & would use nobody else from here on out!! I can rest assured that we are in good hands & that everything is being managed appropriately when my husband & I are at work. You will not be disappointed using Lisi Contracting & most importantly, they are secure in the work they do & make it fun every step of the way!! Thanks to them, my husband & I have built our dream home :)"

"I would highly recommend John for any architectural project. John was creative, collaborative, and thorough in every interaction. We worked with him for almost a year during our home renovation and he guided us each step of the way, including zoning variance applications, selecting a contractor, monitoring progress, and more. We will definitely work with him on future projects."

Architects questions, answered by experts

A home elevator is a fantastic way to improve your home’s accessibility. Elevators allow anyone, even those who use wheelchairs or walkers, to safely move between floors within your home.

Dumbwaiters may allow you to move items up and down floors, and stair lifts can move people up and down, but elevators are the best option if you need space for people, their belongings, and/or mobility aids such as wheelchairs.

That said, home elevators cost more than other options, such as stair lifts. Consider your needs and your budget when deciding the best way to make your home more accessible to a person with a disability or a person who is aging in place.

An architect is usually involved in the process of determining the layout and structural features and requirements of the home itself, taking into account the local codes, climate, and materials needed to make the home structurally sound. Architects may communicate more with contractors and subcontractors throughout the building process. In comparison to architects, interior designers typically focus on the aesthetics of a home interior and possibly exterior, helping the homeowner decide on color schemes, textures, and materials to incorporate into the design.

While many different factors determine whether a house is classified as a villa, many villas are detached homes with a European design influence, often with an emphasis on luxury and comfort. Modern villas often feature outdoor spaces such as terraces, gardens, or patios.

Greek Revival architecture was popularized in America in the early- to mid-1800s, around the time when archaeologists were discovering buried ancient Greek buildings. As a means of celebrating the democratic government in ancient Greece, American architects borrowed from those newly discovered buildings as a way to emphasize that America would remain a democratic country in the wake of the American Revolution.

Renaissance-style architecture predates Italianate architecture and serves as an inspiration for many elements of the Italianate style. Renaissance architecture adheres to the rules of classical architecture, while Italianate architecture adds elements that served to modernize the Renaissance style for the Victorian era and allow this style of home to be produced in a range of sizes to be attainable for various budgets.
