"The job went very smoothly and their work was very good - I'd say a B+/4.5 stars. Starting with the initial consult, Nate, the owner, was very professional and gave a detailed estimate. Pricing is transparent. He was punctual, and responsive to questions. I appreciated his honesty about what the pressure washing could and could not do with respect to some very dirty areas of our home's exterior. The 2 people who worked on our house were also punctual and professional. They were very nice and worked efficiently. There were a few small issues - parts of window frames that weren't cleaned; and interior and exterior post-work cleanup that could have been a bit better. I trust these would be addressed on future visits and would not prevent me from hiring Window Genie of Westchester again."

"Very professional, gave me an estimate, we agreed and when he came to do the job he was organized, efficient and did a very good job. At the end of the job he walked me through his work and then gave me the heads up on a few jobs that I should attend to so my house is taken care of. No hard sell to do the extra work but more of a recommendation. Very happy and would use again!"

"Freddy helped me install Govee lights and reached out right away after I contacted him. He gave me a very fair quote and was punctual, arriving exactly when he said he would. He took his time to make sure the project was done right, and the final result came out great. He even helped me with a small side project I had, which I really appreciated. Overall, he was very trustworthy, communicated clearly throughout the process, and was easy to work with. I’d definitely recommend him to anyone looking for quality work."

Holiday Decorating questions, answered by experts

There aren’t many alternative methods to hanging Christmas lights on fascia without using clips. But if you don’t have fascia clips to hang your Christmas lights, you can use clothespins in a pinch. To do this, hold the strand of lights in place and clip it in place with the clothespin. Using nails or staples is never a good idea, as they can damage your fascia.

You can tackle hanging Christmas lights yourself with the right tools, accessories, and a trusted friend or neighbor. You’ll need to purchase a ladder ($100 to $300), clips ($10 to $20), hooks ($10 to $15), and lights ($25 to $100 per string).

Otherwise, you should hire a trusted holiday light installer near you. You’ll pay an average price of $200 to $650, but you’ll have peace of mind knowing that the job is done correctly and safely.

To hang Christmas lights on a ceiling without using nails or traditional hooks, you have several damage-free options. Adhesive hooks and clips are a popular choice. For smaller projects, you can use pushpins, tacks, or adhesive putty. Specially designed transparent tape that can hold weight without damaging paint is also effective. For a more creative approach, consider stringing the lights over a curtain rod near the ceiling. If you have a drop ceiling, look for clips and hooks designed to attach to the metal framing. Note that staples can also be used, but may leave small holes.

Heavy amounts of snow could be a problem. In many climates, lots of snow on your rooftop can lead to freeze-thaw cycle that create ice dams, which can damage rooftops. But if you’re using shingle clips, this snow poses an additional problem: As it melts and freezes, it can easily dislodge clips you’ve placed on your roof.

You can clean snow off your roof after a fresh snowfall while it’s still lightweight, but brushing off snow can also dislodge your clips. If you get a lot of snow, then roof clips become less viable.

First of all, don’t shop for bargain lights—often, you’ll end up with a faulty or broken strand, full of dead bulbs or less-than-luminous brightness. Choose quality lights that will last you many years—LED lights have been known to last as long as 100,000 hours. Second, plan ahead and purchase lights for next year’s Christmas during this year’s post-holiday sales. Finally, have a vision and a plan—if you know the measurements of your home, including any windows, doors, and outside bushes you wish to light up, you should be able to only purchase the necessary lights and not more than you need.
