"Carlos and his men showed up on time and did a great job fixing one of our exterior doors. The door was very difficult to close and lock. These guys made adjustments to the door and we can now close and lock the door with no issue. We would highly recommend CNW Decorative."

"Very professional when I called for quotes on a new bathroom shower glass door. They showed up masked, even wearing booties in my house to measure my bathroom shower. Impressed! Professional and my shower door looks great! I will definitely recommend to my family and friends."

Small jobs welcome

"Michael did a perfect job painting our home! He was very polite, personable, and flexible to make it easier for us. Would highly recommend for painting/patchwork. He also fixed the screen door that wouldnâ t close which was a plus. Having him back to do laminate floors soon. Trustworthy and knowledgeable as well and very helpful. He knew everything about our painting questions!"

"ABSOLUTE PERFECTION is the only way to describe the work done by Lajos. He installed new floors, refinished existing floors, replaced all of the doors and moldings, plus completely remodeled 2 bathrooms. In addition he repaired and fixed a lengthy list of other things in the house. EVERYTHING he did was done flawlessly with the most meticulous attention to detail. I cannot speak highly enough about the work he has done for me and I will DEFINITELY be hiring him back to do more projects on my house. He is extremely fast as well, but the most impressive thing is that he really takes pride in his work. I would definitely recommend him."

Doors questions, answered by experts

You can attach the hinges to either the door or the frame first, depending on your preference. The order will not affect how the door hangs or the ease of installation. However, we recommend starting with the top hinge over the bottom one for stability, as it’s much easier to support the door from below while you install the top hinge. It will also be easier to pull the door outward from the hinges as it hangs from the top than it would be to push the door toward the hinges, as there’s less clearance on the lock side.

While applying a small amount of olive oil to a door hinge may not cause problems, regularly using olive oil or vegetable oil can cause door hinges to become sticky and gummed up over time. Additionally, residue from food-grade products can actually turn rancid.

Permits are required when carrying out any structural work, so in most cases, you will need a building permit to cut through a concrete block wall to install a door. If you have specific questions about your project or need to obtain a permit, contact your municipal building department or ask your contractor for advice.

Soft-close hinges are worth it if the benefits are a top priority. The biggest benefit of soft-close hinges is that they reduce stress on the cabinet frames, and extending the longevity of these pricey furnishings is a worthwhile investment. Plus, fixing noisy kitchen cabinets helps protect kids with careless fingers, reduces marks on the frames, and creates a quieter living space.

No, exterior doors don’t need to be prehung, although choosing a door that is prehung makes the installation process far easier. Installing an exterior door that isn’t prehung requires carefully maneuvering the heavy door into place in your door frame, making sure it’s level and plumb on all sides, and then attaching the hinges so that they’re perfectly level and are affixed to the right part of your frame and door. Prehung exterior doors are far more DIY-friendly.
