"Started the roof in December of 2011.  It was done for the most part in about 6 weeks.  There were complications because the sheathing underneath the roof tiles were rotting.  The job became a little more expensive but it was worth it as I now feel secure that I have a sturdy, 30 year roof.  And it looks nice too!  The issue with this job is that the contractor was very late in getting my gutter system put back together.  My fear was that this situation would impact my foundation because the water draining from the roof wasn't being directed away from the house, but down to the foundation.  It took him another couple of months to get all the pieces back onto the roof.

We also noted an extreme temperature difference in the house and discovered that the floors were not insulated.  Ken and his crew did a very good job of installing the installation and what a difference it made!

The dining room redo came out beautiful.  My issue here was how the job dragged out over two months!  And one other slip up was the lighting installation.  He cut the electrical cords attached to the pendant lights above the dining table prematurely and as a result, the pendants are about 4 inches too high.  I would have preferred he checked with me first instead of making the decision to cut and install. Oh well.  I can live with it."

Snow Removal questions, answered by experts

When it comes to deciding whether a two-stage or three-stage snow blower is better, you must consider the amount of snowfall you get, the size of the area, and your budget.

A three-stage snow blower is more efficient at clearing higher volumes of snow quicker and removing ice build-up. It’s ideal for commercial use and removing snow from large areas. Make sure to compare various types of snow removal equipment to ensure you purchase the one that is best for your needs.

Yes, many providers offer emergency services during severe weather. Confirm availability with your contractor.

Whether salt melts ice overnight will depend on how low the temperature drops. If temperatures stay around 30 degrees Fahrenheit, you can count on salt melting ice overnight. Otherwise, the lower temperatures get, the less effective the salt is in melting ice, and the more likely you’ll wake up with a slippery driveway the next day.

Roof raking helps clear snowfall from your roof and, in turn, you hope that this prevents ice dams. But can roof raking actually cause them? Generally, no, it cannot. But you should note that while, in some cases, you might successfully prevent ice dams from forming near the edge of your roof by keeping it cleared with a roof rake, they could still form higher up on the roof, where you are unable to reach. This may leave you wondering: Does roof raking prevent ice dams? While it is not a 100% guaranteed way to prevent them, it does help.

Ice dam removal is costly, but it’s absolutely worth it. If you leave an ice dam as is and don’t take care of it, you’re looking at potentially dangerous situations and high-cost repairs—like roof collapse, leaks, mold problems, gutter damage, and more. Removing ice dams is essential to keeping your home and your family safe in the snowy season.
