"GT Roofing did a great job. Getting the bid was straight forward - no pressure, no scare tactics, and no bogus specials from a pushy salesman. The owner told me all about their products and services, inspected my roof and attic, measured everything, and answered all my questions. The next day I had a quote and time to decide. On the day of the job, the crew arrived early, protected my house and bushes, and went right to work. The owner was on sight and available. They removed the old shingles, repaired a few damaged areas of the roof, put down the under layers, and put on the new shingles. All in one day. And did a great job of clean up. Best of all, the roof looks great, and it came in right on budget. They are very professional and easy to work with. I would certainly recommend them to anyone."

"Install crew was perfect. No dust, no mess. Complete cleanup, and a perfect airtight install. For years we have had winter management strategies. Closing off room on the north side... and running space heater in those rooms during use. After installation of the ProEdge windows these rooms are as warm as the rest of the house. AMAZING! Recent warm days prove the advantage of triple glazed low-E windows, too. Nice and cool inside. I searched for years for new windows that met MY specifications . As a career engineer I am happy to recommend ProEdge to anyone. Their attention to detail is superb."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Thatched roofs are expensive for two main reasons: high labor costs and low supply of available roofers. The labor is more intensive for a thatched roof than other roof materials, so your contractor will work longer and charge more for the installation. There are also few professionals with the specialized skills and experience to install thatched roofs. Since the supply of available professionals is low, the cost of compensation is high.

It’s possible for a roofing estimate to change after the initial assessment, but in most cases, it shouldn’t. There’s always the risk that something unexpected will happen that causes prices to go up, like discontinued materials or your roofer discovering previously hidden damage to your decking when ripping off the old roof. However, experienced roofers should account for these circumstances in their initial estimates. Roofing contracts are binding, so always check your contract for language about how and why your numbers could change.

EPDM roofing is a single-ply roofing material made of rubber, and a professional will install it in a single sheet and seal the seams. Built-up roofing (BUR) consists of multiple layers made from asphalt, adhesives, and roofing felt. A professional will construct the layers of BUR on-site. EPDM is easier to repair and has better resistance to extreme temperatures, while BUR is more fire-resistant and affordable.

Generally, hailstones that are one inch in diameter or larger can cause significant damage to a roof. However, smaller hail can also cause damage, particularly when accompanied by strong winds, if it strikes an aging or poorly maintained roof, or if hailstorms are frequent in your area. Hail that is ¼ inch (pea-sized) or smaller poses a minimal risk of immediate, permanent damage, but cumulative impacts can cause deterioration over time. The extent of the damage also depends on the roofing material; hail-resistant tiles like slate or certain types of asphalt shingles can withstand impacts better than other materials. If you are concerned about potential damage after a storm, it is always a good idea to have a professional roofer conduct an inspection.

Yes, a roof blister can cause a leak if it gets to the point where it pops. Prior to popping, a roof blister is just an aesthetic issue, but once it pops, you’re left with a small hole in the shingle. Water from rain and snow can easily get inside this hole and interact with your underlayment, roof decking, and the building material below.
