"Prompt reply to my call, came when he said he would, pricing was fair, worked with the mess in the basement without complaint. Gave a tentative quote based on unknown extent of work, but did the job within the quote Cleaned up the stairs and floor. Overall good experience considering the situation. Would highly recommend."

"Mark Allen was a joy to work with. Kept us informed of when he would be performing the installation and always showed up when he said he would. Provided excellent recommendations on the installation project such as adding a whole house filter and using rough cedar to match the house around the outside vent area to give it a professional look . During removal he drained a bucket of sand from the old hot water heater so the recommendation for a filter was spot on. Final result was an excellent installation for a good price. I would highly recommend Allen's Kitchen - Bath & Home Services."

"Jared was awesome. From the initial phone call through the end of the job he was very professional and courteous. Assessed the problem, took the time to explain to me exactly what he planned on doing, and went over the possible outcomes (good and bad). Got right to work and had the drain clear in no time. 5 star experience all the way around and would absolutely recommend him to anyone who needs a plumber. Hopefully I won’t need a plumber again any time soon, but I know who I’ll call if I do."

"They called & came earlier than the first scheduled appt time. They looked over the situation and determined it was best to replace the pump. They gave me 3 choices and when asked their recommendation on which one they would choose for their own home, they didn't choose the most expensive unit. They discouraged me from wasting my money on an additional  item I inquired about. They even had the Angie's List coupon already printed out. I was able to handle the whole transaction over the phone as I had someone to let them in the house. I was impressed with their honesty and the speed in which they got out to my house & replaced the sump pump. I would definitely use them again."

Drain Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Professional plumbers use many high-grade chemicals to unclog drains. Many use hydrochloric acid, known as muriatic acid, when it comes to extreme blockages.

No. You should never pour old paint down a drain or sewer because it can clog pipes and pollute the environment. You must dispose of paint properly and safely. Different types of paint need to be disposed of in different ways—oil-based paints must be taken to a paint recycling center, while you can throw dried-out water- or latex-based paints in the garbage.

If your dishwasher isn’t draining, some common causes include a clogged drain filter, drain hose, or air gap. Also, if you have a garbage disposal, a clog in the disposal can back up your dishwasher since they share plumbing, as can a clog in your kitchen sink’s plumbing. A handy DIYer may be able to figure out how to unclog a dishwasher, but you may need to call in a plumber if you can’t locate and clear the clog yourself.

Bleach isn’t likely to help unclog a sewer line. Bleach isn’t useful in this situation because it won’t dissolve the grime and debris in the clog. Instead, you want to use ingredients that will have a chemical reaction to clear out the buildup, like vinegar or salt and baking soda.

Bleach is generally not recommended for your shower drains. Although diluted bleach can technically help clean your drain, it will not unclog your pipes. In fact, bleach can harm your plumbing system because it’s so powerful. The bleach can change the color of your sink and even corrode metal pipes and fittings.

Often, people reach for bleach because it's already in their house. But it's worth getting a plunger or a drain snake for the job instead. It'll be a lot less money to buy a new plunger than to pay a plumber to repair or replace damaged pipes.
